Sadeera Samarawickrama and Dhananjaya de Silva have patiently built a new partnership for Sri Lanka after the loss of two quick wickets.

There are signs that are starting to up the ante though.

Samarawickrama is up to 76 off 65 balls, while De Silva has 23 off 31.

Sri Lanka have added 36 off the last five overs so they have gone along a steady rate, but with 10 oves to go we might see them accelerate from here with a decent amount of wickets in hand.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has plenty of options with all three of his seamers: Shaheen Afridi, Hassan Ali and Haris Rauf having three overs left apiece.

Kev: Forget all this net run rate confusion, should be based on boundary count, pretty sure that works!

This is out, surely? Towhid Hridoy across the line against Adil Rashid. Looks stone dead. Given out on the field.

Also, the reason the net run rates don’t add up to zero is because the teams don’t all bat the same number of overs (if they win batting second)

But what if you have loads of games batting second chasing low targets? You'd effectively be penalised for doing a good job with ball.

As a 38-year-old who's been following cricket for most of his life, understanding NRR still eludes me. Wouldn't total runs be better? More easily understood by the general public at least?

  18. Pakistan fighting back against Sri Lankapublished at 35 overs

Pakistan are doing a good job of fighting back and restricting Sri Lanka.

The run-rate is still more than seven an over, but the last five overs have only seen 18 runs added for one wicket.

That was Charith Asalanka who edged Hassan Ali behind from the first ball of the 31st over.

Haris Rauf is recovering his figures too. His last two overs have gone for 10, meaning he has 0-55 from seven overs.

Sadeera Samarawickrama has reached his half-century, and is 54 not out, and he's joined by Dhananjaya de Silva, who is nine not out.

Sri Lanka would get up to 356 if they continued at the same rate.

    Listen to that match here.

It's been a perfect display by England so far. They were under pressure because of that performance against England. Firstly with the bat, a brilliant century from Dawid Malan and now with the ball in hand they have done a professional job.

Rapid over from Adil Rashid, just two singles from it. Ben Stokes has taken a drink out to Chris Woakes. He looks like an extra from Top Gun.
