  1. Ban 179-6published at 37 overs

Mahmudullah is in at eight for Bangladesh. The all-rounder does average 35 in ODIs, but his stats are plumped by finishing not out in 50 of his 192 innings.

The 37-year-old veteran gets going with two singles from Santner, while Hridoy takes the same.

Mushfiqur Rahim went to play the pull shot and it's skidded through him. That was a premeditated shot. It was too full to play that shot to it. I think it's clever from New Zealand. They have set him up again nicely.

He fell all over it. That is a big blow for Bangladesh. An innings which comes to a crashing and crushing end.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 35.5 overs

    Mushfiqur b Henry 66 (Ban 175-6)

We have our boundary... but we have a wicket as well!

Mushfiqur ramps Henry over his shoulder for a once-bounce four, but, like Shakib before him, falls after showing a sign of impetus.

Three balls after the boundary, Henry drops short again but the ball keeps a tad low, scudding under Mushfiqur's attempted pull shot and sending the off stump flying.

  5. Ban 168-5published at 35 overs

Just the single from Santner's seventh as Hridoy pushes into square leg.

That's five overs without a boundary.

Bangladesh are just ticking along and trying to give themselves a platform to be really destructive in the last five overs.

They're in the precarious position that if they go for it too soon and lose a couple of quick wickets, they could be bowled out for 200.

If they get up to 250 then they're in the game.

  7. Ban 167-5published at 34 overs

And still pace at this end as Matt Henry arrives in place of Lockie Ferguson.

Henry can't summon the express bumpers offered by his predecessor, but sticks to short of a length. Mushfiqur and Hridoy take a single from every delivery.

  8. Ban 161-5published at 33 overs

Mitchell Santner returns to replace Ravindra as New Zealand stick to spin at this end.

The New Zealand all-rounder races through his first over, the Bangladesh batters taking a single apiece.

That was a nasty one from Ferguson because it just nipped back at Hridoy as well.

  10. Ban 159-5published at 32 overs

    Sharp bowling from Ferguson!

The New Zealand seamer is capable of rattling off 86mph deliveries in the Chennai heat, catching Towhid Hridoy by surprise with another short ball - the batter seems to take his eye off it but the ball drops safe.

  11. Ban 156-5published at 31 overs

Towhid Hridoy is the next man in for Bangladesh, the 22-year-old playing in his 20th ODI.

He takes first runs with a single off Ravindra down to long off.

Meanwhile let's take a minute to enjoy some of the best shots from Mushfiqur's fifty.

Great effort on this pitch, in this heat, to run in and bang the ball into the pitch. Relentless stuff from Lockie Ferguson.

Good catch from Tom Latham running to his right, his cap came off and he steadied himself.

Shakib had just given himself the license to start striking because he's struggling with the heat.

Another half hour of Shakib would have been very helpful for Bangladesh.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 29.5 overs

    Shakib c Latham b Ferguson 40 (Ban 152-5)

    Six and out!

Shakib's post-drinks charge comes to an end. A thick top-edge from Ferguson sails for six over backward square.

The New Zealand seamer bangs the next ball in as well and Shakib goes for a second pull, again taking the top edge but this flies high in the air. Tom Latham runs round to the catch diving forward.

I think we've seen the change in approach from Shakib Al Hasan.

'If I can't run, I'm going to have to smash them!'

Shakib is just starting to click through the gears and this is exactly what Bangladesh need.

They've saved the innings, now they need to look at setting a target.

  17. 6 runs

    Ban 145-4published at 29 overs

We're back under way and Shakib has returned a new man!

The hatless captain advances down the pitch and smacks Ravindra for four over mid-off, the sweat raining from his hair as he completes the shot.

He then cleaves the following delivery over mid-wicket for six to move to 34. Ravindra fires in a dart to close the over and stop Shakib taking any more runs.

Shakib has made the bold decision to bat without a helmet and without a hat of any kind.

He's dripping with sweat at the moment. He looks like he's just walked out of the shower.

  20. drinks break

    Drinks breakpublished at 28.1 overs

Shakib is looking exhausted, with great beads of sweat dripping from his brow. We pause after one ball from Ravindra and the physio comes on, following by subs with drinks and groundstaff to brush the pitch and repaint the crease.
