Hoping for one of Shaheen’s epic opening spells to bring this game back to life. After all the build up and hype it would be a shame to see one side dominate the other so emphatically.

  2. Ind 10-0published at 1 over

    Target 192

It's 10 from the first over for India. No early Shaheen Afridi magic yet for Pakistan.

They need something very special from someone if they're going to have any chance.

Shaheen dismissed Rohit when they met in the Asia Cup last month. He did so in the T20 World Cup in 2021.

That opening boundary was some statement.

That is a glorious shot. He's such an accomplished batter for someone so young.

  5. Ind 9-0published at 0.3 overs

    Target 192

    Superb drive from Shubman Gill.

It beats the in-field and there's no stopping it after that.

India are looking to break the back of this chase early.

It's a very good shot, but he was waiting for the slanting in-swinging delivery. To his credit though he took his mark for him, he wasn't shying away from it.

Shaheen Afridi can be predictable. What about the out-swinger?

  7. Ind 4-0published at 0.1 overs

    Target 192

First ball swings onto the pads and Rohit Sharma whips it over mid-wicket for four!

India have all the momentum and the skipper makes sure it stays that way at the start of this innings.

Pakistan need to bowl their best bowlers in the first 20 overs because India will win if this game goes 50 overs. Pakistan need wickets.

    Thanks, Tim.

A couple of early wickets might make things interesting but then again, India were 2-3 against Australia and still won comfortably chasing a similar sort of total.

Shaheen Afridi will open the bowling. It's Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill at the top of the order for India.

Surely India won't muck up the chase, right?

Here's Sam Drury to find out.

I'm still a bit surprised that India left Ashwin out, even if they have bowled Pakistan out for 191.

We talk of the much vaunted Indian batting line up with two ODI greats and the best young batsmen in the world as their top three. But the bowling is unbelievable, surely one of the best ODI bowling attacks assembled, and Shami and Ashwin sat on the bench.

After the top four, only one other Pakistan batter reached double figures. Babar and Rizwan added 82 for the third wicket. If they hadn't we might already be done by now.

Perhaps the most damning part of that Pakistan collapse is that the eight wickets in feel in just a smidge over 13 overs.

I wonder what living in these houses in the shadow of the stadium is like on a day like today.

I don’t think they’ll be getting an early night.

That total, by the way, is Pakistan's lowest against India in a 50-over World Cup match since 1999.

  17. 'I have bowled really well in the first three games'published at 13:03 British Summer Time 14 October 2023

India's Kuldeep Yadav: "It has been a good World Cup so far, 100%. I knew where to bowl but the pitch was a little slower. They weren't doing much so I was just varying my pace and using my variations.

"I was bowling very well in my first seven overs and not offering too much width. They weren't trying too much, particularly Muhammad Rizwan, who didn't sweep me at all. I wanted them to play a a bad shot. I have bowled really well in the first three games.

"I was trying to stay within the wickets and the flipper worked to Saud Shakeel. It was a good ball. He didn't read it because of the pace of the wicket.

"The crowd were unbelievable. I was very excited before the game. The atmosphere was crazy."

That wicket of Babar really made it tough for Pakistan to hold on to what they had at that time.

It's not a bad pitch but India have bowled magnificently, targeted the stumps and Pakistan have not been able to cope with it.

India really shouldn't be challenged by this.

Unless they lose wickets early and the new ball does something, this should be India's game.

Pakistan will be disappointed. That's quite a collapse.

There is no logic behind it because it is just careless, causal batting. The focus was off.

This is such a good batting trip and to be bowled out for 191 and lose 8-36, very few teams can do that.

    Pakistan have themselves to blame.
