  1. wicket

    Buttler b Naveen 9 (Eng 91-4)

    Straight through him!

Full, straight and angling in at the stumps from Naveen-ul-Haq and Jos Buttler plays all around it.

There's a huge gap between bat and pad and the ball whistles through it to splatter the stumps.

    England are in big trouble.

We had quite the light show during that last drinks break.

Harry Brook will not have seen too much of Rashid Khan but he's a quick learner and a good player of spin.

  4. Eng 90-3published at 17 overs

    Target 285

Rashid Khan gets the crowd up and cheering with a few keepy uppies with the ball at the end of the over.

It's England who will be the happier with how the over itself went, though, eight from it and it might have bene more but for a brilliant diving save on the rope to deny Harry Brook a boundary.

To finish in that top four you can probably lose three games but with the way other teams are going that might not be the case. So for me this is a must-win game for England.

  6. Eng 86-3published at 16.1 overs

    Target 285

Rashid Khan into the attack and Jos Buttler crunches his first ball through extra cover for four.

Superbly timed by the England skipper.

There's no reason for England to panic just yet. Afghanistan have bowled well, though. Another wicket would put the pressure on England's lower order.

Harry Brook has never really done it in 50-over cricket and has a great chance to get a score, get England over the line and with Ben Stokes set to return make himself the man who is not dropped.

  9. Eng 82-3published at 16 overs

    Target 285

Back-to-back boundaries to end the over from Harry Brook.

The first is an outside edge that is wide of slip and runs away to deep third but the second is just phenomenal timing.

It looks like little more than a defensive push but the ball races back past the bowler and away to the boundary sponge.

England have not been quite sharp enough with the bat.

I guess what Afghanistan are doing with Rashid Khan is backloading their innings. They feel they are controlling the game with him to come.

  12. drinks break

    Eng 72-3published at 15 overs

    Target 285

Good running from Jos Buttler gets him two from the second ball but that is the last scoring shot of the over.

Buttler does well to dig out another delivery that scuttles along the ground before getting lucky when he nearly drags on with an attempted cut shot.

Time for drinks and Afghanistan are on top.

Three defeats for England could still be enough to get through the group stage, but it could also be enough to send them out.

  16. Eng 69-3published at 14 overs

    Target 285

Probing over from Naveen-ul-Haq, who will retire from ODI cricket at the end of this tournament aged 24...

He beats Jos Buttler on the outside edge twice in the over before going on to complete a maiden.

Nick from Surrey. That may be the case, but England always seem to find a way. I think the team use outside criticism as a motivating factor when they're not playing their best. They always seem to find a way to prove themselves against the naysayers, and show why they are considered one of the best white-ball teams of the last few years, often with a sprinkling of magic from someone.

England have plenty of batting to get over the line, but you know this partnership need to do the work. Rashid Khan will probably come on soon and he's got Jos Buttler in the past.

  19. Eng 69-3published at 13 overs

    Target 285

In strides captain Jos Buttler to try and get England out of this mess.

The required rate is not a problem but the wickets are. That's why Afghanistan are moving fielders into catching positions.
