I've seen collapses like this happen so many times from Sri Lanka.

I don't know what it is, whether they relax and take things for granted a bit when things are going well.

But you can't do that against good teams like Australia. They keep coming at you, even when they are low on confidence.

20-year-old prospect Dunith Wellalage is the next batter for Sri Lanka and he gets off the mark immediately with a single into the covers.

The perfect start after a break for Australia. It's not swinging massively but the angle from around the wicket makes it much harder for the batter to pick the trajectory.

Australia are soaring ahead. The rain break has not disrupted them.

Australia continue where they left off! They have a wicket with the second ball after the rain delay.

Bit of a waft from Dhananjaya de Silva outside his off stump and the ball catches an inside edge and skews away to take out leg stump.

Sri Lanka have lost their last five wickets for 21 runs.

Australia will be hoping that this rain will have added some spice to the pitch and will offer a bit more to their seamers.

And we're back after a break of just under half an hour.

The rain break will frustrate Australia a lot more, because they were just getting into a good rhythm for the first time with regular wickets.

For Sri Lanka, 300 has to be the absolute minimum after the start that they had and because the pitch seems to be playing so well.

  10. Play to resume at 12:40 BSTpublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 16 October 2023

That sheet is now gone and umpires Chris Gaffaney and Joel Wilson have been out in the middle for a chat with a phalanx of officials.

They are evidently satisfied and play will resume in five minutes time - 12:40 BST.

By now we have five sopping vehicles pootling around the outfield - a little motor show for crowd at Lucknow.

All the covers are off now. We can't quite work out what the conversations are but hopefully it won't be much longer.

The super-sopper has been scooting around the outfield while the groundstaff are walking off the covering on the run-ups.

Next comes the big sheet on the square, then we should be back underway.

David Warner is not just a willing manipulator of plastic sheeting, he's also an excellent outfielder.

His two diving catches in the deep have been absolutely vital for the Australians.

Every group-stage match has an extra 60 minutes allocated so we won't start losing any overs until just before 13:15 BST.

That's good news for Australia and Sri Lanka, with both searching for that first win.

Australia will not want this game washed out by the rain. That would hamper their qualification hopes pretty significantly.

The five-time world champions sit bottom of the tournament table with defeats against South Africa and India in their opening two matches.

Little wonder that David Warner helped the groundstaff with the covers.

Oh! That gloom wasn't just a setting sun - we've got some rain and the players are coming off.

David Warner continues his good day in the field by helping the ground staff to drag some plastic sheeting onto the run-ups.

That is a much better over from Sri Lanka's point of view. They got the boundary early in the over and then rotated the strike with four singles.

An encouraging moment for this nascent partnership Dhananjaya de Silva plays a lovely late cut for four.

The Sri Lankan batters work four more singles off the bowling of Zampa.
