I think Afghanistan will be pretty frustrated with themselves, they dropped five or six catches. I think they should have bowled New Zealand out or kept them to a target of 260. But 288 on the board, that partnership between Phillips and Latham was crucial.

At one point you wondered if New Zealand would make 240 or 250. At another point, when they were 109-1, we thought they'd make 300. They'll probably be quite happy.
Mitchell Santner clubs the final ball of the innings to help New Zealand up to 288-6 from their 50 overs, meaning Afghanistan need 289 to win.
That 144-run partnership of Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips is central to that total, though Afghanistan may rue those six dropped catches.
Naveen-ul-Haq will bowl the final over and Mark Chapman thinks he has a four through mid-wicket, but some smart relay fielding from Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi restricts them to two.

It's not a great delivery. The field is set for wide yorkers, it's a length ball.
Oof, Mark Chapman can hit the ball very hard. He has clubbed Azmat over mid-wicket for six.
That was meaty shot.
Azmat has had a bit of a shocker there as he bowls a waist-high no-ball that Mark Chapman cuts away for four, though New Zealand can only scramble a single from the resulting free hit.
Mitchell Santner joins Mark Chapman in the middle.
New Zealand had built up a fair head of steam but that over from Naveen has dragged things back a touch for Afghanistan.

Once again, two set batters dismissed and Afghanistan are eeking their way back into this.
Latham b Naveen 68 (New Zealand 255-6)
Two wickets in three balls!
Mark Chapman gets off the mark with a single first ball to bring Tom Latham on strike. He attempts another pre-meditated scoop but gets nothing on it this time and the ball clatters into the stumps.
Glenn Phillips shakes his head as he makes his way off the field.
Mark Chapman is the new batter.

GP looks at the toe end of his bat and rightly so. Doesn't get hold of it, back leg off the floor and it goes to Rashid Khan. Doesn't celebrate, throws the ball back in and starts directing the field. He's been the captain for the last fifteen overs.
Phillips c Rashid b Naveen 71 (NZ 254-5)
Afghanistan finally hold on to a catch.
Glenn Phillips goes for a cross-batted heave but the ball flies off the toe end of the bat and goes straight to Rashid Khan at long-off.
I would say it was a simple catch but Afghanistan have spurned similar opportunities this match.

Why couldn’t Afghanistan be this bad in the field against England? New Zealand living a very charmed life today.

The last 17 balls have gone for 42 runs. If New Zealand go at 10 an over they'll make 280.
Four more for Tom Latham!
It is the pre-meditated paddle scoop that flies over the wicketkeeper's head and away for four to bring up the New Zealand 250.

Pace on for Latham and as soon as he sees it's a fuller ball he opens his arms and smacks it down the ground.
With a half-century in the bag Tom Latham is on the attack.
He plays a powerful flat drive that goes back over the bowler's head. Next ball he clubs it over deep mid-wicket to make it back-to-back sixes.
Tom Latham has been very much the junior partner here but he connects with a meaty pull to move to 49, before a single next ball moves him to a very hard-earned half-century from 67 deliveries.
