I really like Netherlands and the fact that they open with spin in Aryan Dutt. Mitchell Marsh and David Warner will be expecting pace on the ball, but they will not get that as much.

  2. Aus 4-0published at 0.2 overs

First of many? Marsh drives through the covers for four. It goes straight through a fielder. Unusual, because the Dutch have been crash hot in the field so far in this tournament.

Australia will be looking to put a big score on the board, because they know the Netherlands' main strength is their bowling. I'm hopeful we will have quite a competitive game here.

Mitch Marsh is scratching at his guard, with David Warner at t'other end. Aryan Dutt, a tall off-spinner, will open the bowling for the Netherlands. Slip in place. Sun out. Play.

The teams are walking out for the anthems, Edwards and Cummins have a good chat and a laugh together. If Australia win this, they stay fourth but put space between themselves and the rest. A Dutch win could put them into the top four. Both are ahead of England...

Dutch captain Scott Edwards was born in Tonga, but raised in Australia. He has played grade cricket in Melbourne. He wanted to field first, so everyone is happy. The Netherlands are unchanged.

  10. Australia win the toss and batpublished at 09:19 British Summer Time 25 October 2023

Pat Cummins gets the right end of the coin flick and opts to bat first. No surprise there, it's a good pitch and a small ground. They could get millions.

Travis Head is not yet fit. Marcus Stoinis has a calf problem, so Cameron Green comes in.

Jos Buttler's boys are tuning up to play Sri Lanka tomorrow (Spoons' Revenge?), but they will have one eye on Delhi, where Australia are taking on the Netherlands.

This is all a bit back of a fag packet, but I make it if the Aussies win today and against New Zealand on Saturday, England will need to Sri Lanka and India on Sunday, otherwise they will be toast.

Right then, moving towards the business end. An implication to every result. England frantically ringing around asking for a favour.
