Can we send Mr Stokes off to get his knee sorted now?

Samarawickrama reverse-sweeps Moeen for four. Sri Lanka are taking the mickey now.

Trip to the kids playground behind the stands, anyone?

This could happen quickly now. Chris Woakes, who has struggled throughout, serves up a full toss that Samarawickrama whips for four.

Is there an inside story of some kind, a fractured camp, malaise in the dressing room? This isn't the gradual decline of an ageing team or an inability to maintain consistent winning form, this is abject failure. Heroes to zeroes.

A half-century for Sadeera Samarawickrama. A very good knock, especially because he came in at such a tricky time.

This is going to be extremely controversial, but... would Joe Root like a go? He is very experienced and committed to his white ball game. He seems very desperate right now. These things just sometimes need a try.

England did win a World Cup in Australia this time last year, Matt. Get back in your box.

It’s been a tough 12 months for English sports fans. And as a foreigner, I’ve loved every bit of it.

In terms of a world-beating side falling apart, it reminds me of the 2013-14 Ashes. And England have still got four matches to play after this. The 100 partnership is up between Nissanka and Samarawickrama.

A lot of people completely missing the point re England this year IMO. I don't think anyone is furious we aren't gonna win consecutive world cups. It's the fact we've been completely and utterly hammered in 4 matches out of 5 that rankles. Is simply unacceptable that a team with the resources we do should have performed like we have.

Thanks, Sam. This has been absolutely, awful, hasn't it?
Target 157
Moeen Ali is into the attack, the Sri Lanka batters milk him for five from the over and this game continues to drift towards its inevitable conclusion.
To take you the rest of the way, it's over to Stephan Shemilt.

It's a been very good pitch, there's no demons in the surface. Maybe in England's innings it looked a fraction slower.
I think these two Sri Lankans have played exceptionally well, looked very calm and knocked the ball around - they're coasting home to victory.
Target 157
The looks on the faces of the England players tell you the story. A mixture of anger and confusion at how this has happened.
They're certainly not the only ones wondering about that.
Target 157
Mark Wood beats the bat to end the over and throws his arms up in frustration.
Sri Lanka need only 47 more runs to win. This one shouldn't last too much longer, mercifully for England.

BBC Test Match Special statistician
Nissanka started the tournament with a three-ball duck, this is his fourth consecutive fifty.
