SL 109-2
Glorious cover drive for four - and that takes Pathum Nissanka to his half-century.
It's been a good knock from the Sri Lanka opener. He's done all that is required of him, helping his side move past those two early wickets with minimal fuss.
Don't think anyone is claiming this England team are the best ever, Ravi...

Re: Rory 14:03. A great white ball team, but definitely not the best ever. That easily belongs to the Aussies of Waugh/Ponting/McGrath/Warne/Gilchrist/Lee era. By far. This England would get hammered by them.
Ravi
Target 157
On we go after eight from Liam Livingstone's over.
England are looking like a beaten side here. Another 54 Sri Lanka runs and they will be.

I think at times it looks like England have tried to be a bit too clever, instead of picking their best XI, batting first and setting a total. But you would have thought this group would have had enough experience to move past their setbacks.
Target 157
We're back under way after drinks and not much has changed.
Liam Livingstone is on. His first ball is short, wide and cut away for four by Sadeera Samarawickrama.

I thought England would do well at this World Cup. I thought the depth of batting would be our strength, I wasn't sure our bowling was going to take loads of wickets.
It's been really disappointing, we haven't had the big scores or partnerships, we've constantly been chasing the games and that makes them hard to win.

If you look at the England XI who played Sri Lanka at the 2019 World Cup, eight of the players are playing in this match.

There's been a distinct lack of strut from double world champions coming in to defend their title.
Target 157
Pathum Nissanka gets back for two after another pull shot to end the over.
Time for a drinks break now. I doubt this game will be going on long enough to require another one.
Target 157
We've got a silly point in place as Mark Wood carries on. It's Joe Root under the lid.
A bit of giveaway about what's coming and Pathum Nissanka is able to get into position and pull in front of square for four.
Slightly top-edgey but well clear of the fielders in the deep.

The end of an era but let’s not forget it’s the era of possibly the greatest white ball team ever, the only team to hold both world cups. I think this is definitely a nothing can last forever type rebuild rather than a everything we’ve done has been a disaster one.

He dances down and just before he hits the ball there's the slightest of pauses, he stabilises his feet, holds his shape, watches it onto the bat and stands to admire it as it soars over mid-wicket.
Target 157
Six more!
Sadeera Samarawickrama charges Adil Rashid and dispatches the ball high over deep mid-wicket.
That takes us another step closer to England being put out of their misery.

Has anyone ever bowled 30 consecutive maiden overs?
Stewart
Target 157
Sadeera Samarawickrama is OK to continue and on we go. Two dot balls to finish Mark Wood's over.
Sri Lanka need another 82 to win from 36 overs.

It is all in the mind. Time to ask Baz to take control of all England teams.

It's difficult being hit on the finger. Jofra Archer got me once and it took about 18 months to get back to normal.
Target 157
Mark Wood is getting this Sri Lankan pair jumping around with some fast, fiery bowling.
In fact, we've got a delay after he hits Sadeera Samarawickrama on the finger with a short ball.
Bring out the magic spray...
