I like how Rizwan has started. Something that was said to him after that drop first ball by Jansen seems to have fired him up.

He has played with intent and it is working for him.

  2. Pak 70-2published at 13 overs

South Africa are certainly getting through their overs, just one run comes from this one from Maharaj.

Babar and Rizwan feels like the partnership that Pakistan's hopes depend on. If these two stick around for a while, and score runs at a good rate, it gives them a real chance in this match.

Failing to do that? Against this South Africa side, you feel a big score is needed or some exceptional bowling is required to halt the Proteas' current form.

    Right on cue!

But it wasn't very well timed. It is not a preferred shot for him.

  4. Pak 70-2published at 12 overs

Babar Azam joins the sweep show, finding four off the penultimate ball of Markram's over, with seven coming from it in total.

Not the cleanest of strokes, but they all count...

Rizwan's arrival was chaotic to say the least. Dropped off his first ball by Jansen, before playing a rather erratic four off his second ball.

  6. Pak 63-2published at 11 overs

I doubt anyone in Chennai will be wanting a hot bath in this heat, Waqar.

Maharaj's first over goes for five, with Rizwan scoring four of them via one well-struck sweep, flying past Shamsi in the field.

Pakistan's wicket-keeper is looking in good touch.

It's amazing the change in recovery for bowlers. Now they have ice baths but we used to get into the hot tub! It was quite soothing back then after a long day bowling to jump in the bath.

  8. Pak 58-2published at 10 overs

The end of Markram's second over is a dot ball, conceding five runs in total.

At the end of the powerplay, Pakistan sit just shy of a run a ball, helped by some aggression from Muhammad Rizwan.

South Africa are adding more spin to this innings early on, with Keshav Maharaj replacing Marco Jansen.

  9. Pak 58-2published at 9.5 overs

Dancing down the track and scoring four, great from Rizwan.

It shows a bit of intent from Rizwan, he did not get that shot as clean as he would have liked, but it still manages to clear the ring field and go for four. Great shot.

Marco Jansen is getting a little bit tired now. Unlike earlier in his innings Mohammad Rizwan just waited to hit that. He can be a key player for Pakistan if he can get going.

  11. Pak 53-2published at 9 overs

Perhaps a bit of Chennai heat is kicking in and leading to some tiredness for Jansen, who has just gone three, wide. four.

Rizwan clubs towards the rope off Jansen for four and maybe, this might be the end of his largely impressive spell.

Nine runs come from the over in total.

And here is how Jansen got his second wicket, currently bowling the fifth over of his spell. Considering his early wickets, Ngidi's departure off the field and tidy figures, you can see why captain Temba Bavuma is sticking with him.

  13. Pak 44-2published at 8 overs

A quick over rattled through by Markram, being nursed for just two singles at the start, but nothing more.

In some concerning news for South Africa, Lungi Ngidi has just left the field, having looked uncomfortable towards the end of his last over. Reeza Hendricks is on as a substitute fielder.

Marco Jansen has certainly been the pick of the bowlers so far, taking both wickets. Here is how he removed Abdullah Shafique a few overs ago...

A bit of a chaotic over there. The ball after being dropped by Jansen, Rizwan fights back with an unorthodox hack off Jansen and it somehow ends up going for four just about at third man.

Some verbals follow that ball between batter and bowler and it is getting a bit lively out there.

And now for something a bit different, with Aiden Markram coming in to bowl.

That was definitely a big chance for Marco Jansen. He's a big man and just could not quite hold on. The shot that followed from Mohmmad Rizwan was played as a shot more in anger than anything else.

  17. dropped catch

    Pak 38-2

Very nearly a first-baller for Rizwan. Jansen's delivery just pops up off Rizwan's bat and back towards the bowler. Jansen jumps and gets a hand to it but cannot take the catch.

Pakistan are looking on the ropes early on here.

Not a good time to begin my commentary stint! Pakistan are sinking at the moment, being pretty defensive and are a little reluctant. It's been smart captaincy from Temba Bavuma because he spotted Imam-ul-Haq looking to dab the ball down to third man. He just opened the face and played it into the hands of Heinrich Klaasen.

An absolute seed from Marco Jansen. Pakistan in trouble in a game they have to win.

  20. wicket

    Imam c Klaasen b Jansen 12 (Pak 38-2)

    Jansen gets another!

Just like his opening colleague Shafique, once Imam started to show some aggression, his innings quickly comes to an end.

Marco Jansen's golden arm does the trick once again, a miss-timed drive from Imam picks out Heinrich Klaasen, taking the catch to avenge giving away a run in the previous over with his fielding.
