  1. Pak 38-1published at 6 overs

Babar ends the over with another boundary. Too short and too wide again from Ngidi and you can't expect Babar to miss out on a gift like that.

10 runs come from that over, Babar's arrival has also seemed to bring out the best of Imam, who seems to be playing with more attack and freedom.

That was a rasping back foot cut from Imam-ul -Haq after being given a bit of Lungi Ngidi.

  3. Pak 33-1published at 5.3 overs

Better from Imam, cutting Ngidi's delivery for four and that one raced away!

Ngidi has looked a bit expensive early on, having not played three days ago against Bangladesh, looking a touch short of rhythm early on.

  4. Pak 28-1published at 5 overs

A bit of a mess of an over in the end from Jansen.

After starting with four dot balls, the third being the wicket, Jansen ended up conceding eight runs, including two no balls.

Babar already looks more settled than Shafique did, while Imam is still yet to really get going, despite showing some level of intent.

  5. Pak 26-1published at 4.4 overs

    That didn't take long!

Babar Azam swats away a full toss in a free hit, following an overstep from Marco Jansen. A brilliant shot through the leg side.

To make matters worse, Jansen overstepped on the free hit, gifting Babar with another.

You could tell South Africa wanted to attack Abdullah Shafique with the short ball. They have noticed the pitch has good bounce for a Chennai pitch. Shafique resisted taking it on initially but then had a go at one.

A good short ball from Marco Jansen and Abdullah Shafique did not quite get hold of the shot. Lungi Ngidi was cool as you like with the catch.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 4.3 overs

    Shafique c Ngidi b Jansen 9 (Pak 20-1)

Shafique's intent is abruptly brought to an end!

A shorter ball from Jansen and Shafique, who attempted to pull that away over the boundary rope at fine leg, is caught with relative comfort by Ngidi.

Babar Azam is next in and already, it feels as if this innings could decide a lot for Pakistan's World Cup hopes

  9. Pak 20-0published at 4 overs

A good over for Pakistan, with nine coming from it in total. Seven off the first two balls from Shafique who seems to get going now after a slow start.

Some aggression shown with the ball from Ngidi too, with his final delivery hitting the body of Imam.

That was a real good shot off the back foot from Abdullah Shafique. He stood tall and you love to see a committed shot like that. Well executed and really good intent.

  11. Pak 15-0published at 3.1 overs

That's more like it, cracked for four from Shafique!

It was a short and wider ball from Ngidi, dispatched by Shafique and it flew to the boundary rope.

    Excellent shot.

  12. Pak 11-0published at 3 overs

Just one more run comes from the outside edge, not the most convincing of starts from Shafqiue.

He keeps the strike for this next over against Ngidi.

  13. Pak 10-0published at 2.3 overs

Four runs for Pakistan, but Shafique had very little to do with it.

Jansen's shorter ball is met with a duck from Shafique, but it goes straight through Quinton de Kock and runs to the boundary for four.

South Africa will be disappointed with that one.

  14. Pak 6-0published at 2 overs

A bit more intent there from Imam, scoring two off his opening delivery, struggling to work the ball through South Africa's fielders before brilliantly driving through mid-wicket for four.

Jansen had the better of Shafique in the first over, but Pakistan's opener will be keen to change that.

Pakistan's problem has been their top-order batters kicking on. They've made 30 or 40 but they've get stuck and don't get through the gears quite as smoothly. That will be one for us to follow today. How does whoever gets in for Pakistan go on to get a bigger score.

  16. Pak 0-0published at 1 overs

No run for Pakistan or Shafique as Jansen picks up a maiden in the first over of the match.

Lungi Ngidi, who missed the win over Bangladesh, opens the bowling at the other end.

Marco Jansen is showing he can be a quality all-rounder at this level. His ability with the bat has surprised me in all honesty.

  18. Pak 0-0published at 0.3 overs

Shafique is just seeing himself in at the minute, blocking out Jansen's first two deliveries, before wafting at the third but missing a dangerous looking ball wide of off stump.

There is no Kagiso Rabada in South Africa's attack, but in Lungi Ngidi, Gerald Coetzee and Jansen, there is plenty of quality pace bowling on display.

The teams are out here and we are due to start shortly.

South Africa will be keen to take early wickets, especially against an opening partnership of Imam ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique, who have had mixed results as a pairing together.

The tall and dangerous Marco Jansen will open the bowling.

After winning their first two games Pakistan have stalled, capitulated even. Ever since they lost to India they have not been able to find their feet.
