  1. 6 runs

    Ind 89-3published at 23.4 overs

Mark Wood digs it into the pitch again to Rohit Sharma, but this time the England quick bowler is a fraction down the leg side allowing the India skipper to step across his stumps and effortlessly help the ball on its way into the stands for six.

  2. 50 runs

Fifty for Rohitpublished at 23.3 overs

Rohit Sharma inside edges Mark Wood's second deliver on to his inner thigh. He was done for pace, there.

The India skipper rocks on the back foot to Wood's next delivery and pulls it through mid-wicket for a couple to bring up his half-century.

Liam Livingstone got a little bit of purchase there. If Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are still there in 15 overs time, they will be looking accelerate, but this has been a good period for England.

  4. ouch!

    Ind 81-3published at 21 overs

Liam Livingstone gives his fifth ball plenty of air to KL Rahul who drills it straight at David Willey, resulting in a couple of painful digits for the latter.

Willey grimaces. That hurt, but thankfully he's okay to continue with any attention from the medical staff.

A maiden from the England spinner.

One thing England might want to have in mind in the rest of the tournament is qualification for the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

The qualifiers for that tournament are the hosts, plus the top seven finishers here in India.

England are 10th as it stands.

There's a few questions still being asked, in particular, by England's seamers. Today, it looks like a different England side, a charged up England.

  7. Ind 81-3published at 22 overs

Mark Wood bounds in with that purposeful run up of his.

The England quick bowler bangs his third ball into the pitch which brings a fresh air pull shot from Rohit.

Wood's fourth delivery then forces the India skipper to awkwardly defend and a leading edge pops up and briefly interests England's fielders in the covers before it drops safe.

Despite his decent form in the tournament until his injury, can't help but think that Reece Topley's return home makes selection a bit simpler for England. Allows Jos & the selectors to double down on the all-rounder / batting depth play that they became famous for in the dominant years ('19-22).

England are just plugging away at the moment. At 78-3 off 21 overs, England have some hope for the first time in this tournament.

  10. Ind 78-3published at 21 overs

    Rohit 48, Rahul 17

A flexing of the muscles from Rohit Shamra as he looks to assert his dominance against spin.

The India skipper picks up one which straightens from Adil Rashid and powerfully sweeps to the boundary for four.

He is a couple of runs away from his half-century.

    Many thanks, Ffion.

This is much more like it from England's bowlers, although there's still a long way to go in Lucknow.

  12. Ind 73-3published at 20 overs

This is very un-India, and also quite un-England by the standards of the tournament so far.

It's like we've gone back to 2019. The glory days, when England were good at ODIs and I could still say I was in my early 20s instead of mid.

Anyway, on that note - here's Timothy Abraham.

India have started the tournament so strongly, but are they running out of Lucknow?

  14. Ind 70-3published at 19 overs

Another solid Adil Rashid over, just three from it. He's bowled five overs for just 17 so far.

    Patience required from England here.

In a year of moral victories, if England beat India they will win the moral World Cup, considering India are probable champions.

  16. Ind 67-3published at 18 overs

Mark Wood is having no luck.

KL Rahul swings and misses, agonisingly close to the edge, before he edges uncertainly but the ball flies past Jos Buttler for four.

If India continue at this rate, they won't even get to 200. They will accelerate though, especially when Rohit gets going. He just loves World Cups.

I'd call that a sexy shot, that is lovely. With the flight of the delivery, Rohit just waits for it and finds the gap.

  19. Ind 62-3published at 17 overs

    Rohit 42, KL Rahul 7

That is a lovely shot. A good length ball on middle stump from Adil Rashid has somehow been driven with utmost elegance for four by Rohit Sharma.

Even Joe Root smiles and shakes his head. How has he got four from that?
