A bit of a rebuilding job to do here but Sri Lanka have got the batters to do it.

  2. SL 87-2published at 20 overs

That wicket has woken Rahmanullah Gurbaz up behind the stumps. He is chirping away again as Rashid Khan gets one to turn in to Sadeera Samarawickrama's pads and very nearly rolls back on to his stumps.

A rare misfield from Rashid gifts Sri Lanka a single to ease the pressure slightly.

Not ideal timing to lose a wicket for Sri Lanka but they've got wickets in hand and plenty of time.

  4. SL 85-2published at 19 overs

That was all very bizarre. But the result is another fine over from Azmat, who deserved that wicket. He is 1-14 from his four overs so far.

Sadeera Samarawickrama, Sri Lanka's top scorer at this World Cup so far, is the new batter.

You know if you've nicked it or not, generally, so the fact he's got to have a chat with his partner, I think he's just hoping his partner tells him to review it.

Afghanistan are jubilant here as they are convinced Pathum Nissanka has feathered through to the wicketkeeper.

Nissanka has a long chat with Kusal Mendis before deciding to review at the last second - but the umpires say he is too late and has to head back to the dressing room.

Rashid Khan just loves playing for Afghanistan. The amount of money he gets from playing in all the franchise leagues around the world, he could say, 'I'm not playing for Afghanistan, they don't pay me enough' but he is so passionate about Afghanistan cricket.

  9. SL 84-1published at 18 overs

Rashid Khan smiles ruefully as a quicker ball rushes Pathum Nissanka into an uppish flick off the pads that lands a few yards short of short fine leg.

It feels like a game of cat and mouse between Rashid and the Sri Lanka batters at the moment.

Just that slightly shorter delivery from Azmat.

It looks like he's tried to force one fuller, hasn't been able to and that extra bit of width too, you don't get away with that on these pitches.

    Beautiful cut shot from Mendis.

  12. SL 81-1published at 17 overs

Kusal Mendis is at it again as he is offered a bit of width by Azmat and he plays another lovely cut that beats backward point and third man.

This partnership is bubbling up nicely for Sri Lanka, it is now worth 59 runs from 70 deliveries.

Kusal Mendis is a veteran of 117 one-day internationals, so he won't be concerned about his steady start.

This boundary is a sign he is getting his eye in.

This is patient by Sri Lanka. They're not really forcing it. It's steady progress.

This is old school cricket from Sri Lanka. But I quite like old school 50-over cricket. If they know in their heads it's a 270 pitch and not trying to get to 320 then they have the luxury of holding themselves back a bit. If they can get 125 off 25 overs with one done down they have the platform.

  16. SL 71-1published at 16 overs

A huge cheer goes up from the crowd as Rashid Khan runs in to bowl, as well as being an Afghanistan icon he is popular figure in India because of his regular IPL stints.

Rashid gives it plenty of air to try and tempt the Sri Lanka batters forward, but they successfully negate any spin, with four runs coming off the over.

And just like that, here is Rashid Khan.

i think Afghanistan need to think how they use Rashid Khan here. Do they want to bring him on for a couple of overs to break this partnership? That's what I would do. Of do they want to bowl him for a slightly longer spell, then hold him back and use him again? I think they need to push for a wicket now.

Sri Lanka not have been allowed to run away with the game at the moment. It's been steady progress.

  20. SL 66-1published at 15 overs

    Nissanka 38, Mendis 12

Afghanistan regularly hold Rashid Khan back but you wonder if they will be forced to bring him into the attack soon as they need to break this partnership.

Kusal Mendis has been a bit slow to get going but helps himself to a boundary with a cut through backward point.

Sri Lanka are playing with the handbrake on at the moment, but with wickets in hand they have the option to accelerate later in the innings.
