  1. SL 166-4published at 35 overs

Afghanistan left-arm seamer Fazalhaq Farooqi, who has taken a recent trip to the barbers by the looks of it, is back into the attack.

He has a hearty grunt whenever he delivers. Just a couple of singles for harith Asalanka and Dhananjaya de Silva as they pick out the fielders in the deep.

Are Sri Lanka leaving their charge a little too late here?

Score Predictor is saying 264. I think Sri Lanka would take that from here.

It just shows that when you don't know which way the ball is turning, your best option sometimes is just to slog it.

It's a big hoick from Asalanka.

  4. SL 163-4published at 34 overs

The mercurial Rashid Khan is summoned by Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi after drinks.

A wild swing from Charith Asalanka to the spinner's fourth delivery leaves Rashid Khan grinning through frustration.

The ball grips, turns and clips the bottom edge of Asalanka's bat before it and races through third for four.

A touch of fortune for Sri Lanka.

Interesting take from the former Ireland wicketkeeper.

I wonder if you ask that question in another decade's time what the answer would be.

I reckon if you went through the 15 players in each squad at this tournament, so 150 players, and asked whether they would prefer to win the T20 World Cup or the 50-over World Cup, I think the majority would say the 50-over World Cup.

The players gulp down something cool.

However, I'm sure you get some piping hot chai tea in Pune if you wanted it.

  8. SL 157-4published at 33 overs

That erudite globe trotter Mohammad Nabi rattles through another over of right-arm spin. He's done a very useful containing job for his side so far.

The attitude from Afghanistan has been exceptional all day.

There's been energy, enthusiasm - they set the standard with the new ball early on.

  10. SL 151-4published at 32 overs

Here's Mujeeb Ur Rahman's 99th ODI wicket as he trapped Sadeera Samarawickrama plumb in front.

He'll have to wait until Afghanistan's next game to bring us century as he's bowled out.

His analysis of 10-0-38-2 looks fairly handy.

  11. SL 150-4published at 31.4 overs

Five singles off Mohammad Nabi's latest over as Sri Lanka start to regain some composure wtih the bat.

One more apiece for Charith Asalanka and Dhananjaya de Silva off Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the next over brings up the 150 for Sri Lanka.

Here's how Mujeeb snaffled the wicket of Kusal Mendis from a few moments ago.

Afghanistan have come back quite strong. At one point Sri Lanka were looking very strong but they've lost a couple of quick wickets and are struggling now.

Why do they have to wait so long? If the umpire isn't sure what has happened, send it upstairs straightaway.

There are so many delays in 50-over cricket.

  14. Asalanka survivespublished at 30 overs

Charith Asalanka is a lucky boy. He was short of his ground when the stumps were broken, but Mohammad Nabi did so before the ball was in his hands.

Only one stump to aim at but Gurbaz wasn't far away.

  16. Umpire reviewpublished at 30 overs

Now then, a bit of good fielding from Rahmanullah Gurbaz throwing to the stumps could see the diving Charith Asalanka in a bit of trouble here.

    Samarawickrama lbw b Mujeeb 36 (SL 139-4)

As expected, Sadeera Samarawickrama is on his way.

He has gone back to a delivery from Mujeeb Ur Rahman but has got himself in a bit of an awkward position and the ball strikes him on the back pad, right in front of the stumps.

Unless he thought he got some bat on it that's a baffling review.

When you play back to Mujeeb, you're in serious trouble.

It looks like Samarawickrama didn't pick it and he really should, it's Mujeeb's stock ball.

  20. Sri Lanka reviewpublished at 10:43 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2023

It was close to the bat, but no wood on it.

    Sadeera Samarawickrama looks in trouble.
