Lofted over long on for six!
Quinton de Kock was down the pitch again to Mitchell Santner and didn't fully go through the shot but was in control and got enough on it to clear the fielder on the edge.

It's quite a decent crowd. I've been a bit critical of the crowds at earlier matches in this World Cup but it's filling up a bit here.

That's another example of a shot a player has worked on. Van der Dussen got out against the Netherlands playing a shot like that, but in the nets the next day, he played that over and over and over again. That's something South Africa have tried to work on as a team.
Lovely, delicate shot from Rassie van der Dussen.
He gets down early for the reverse sweep and guides the ball away very fine for four to end the over.

De Kock manged to place that perfectly in between three fielders, he could've been in some strife there.
de Kock 36, van der Dussen 13
Quinton de Kock is trying to push things on but he is riding his luck a bit.
He advances to Glenn Phillips and tries to whip the ball over the leg side.
However, he miscues it and the ball hangs in the air before landing perfectly in the gap between three fielders.
Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is out of the match against England on Saturday after suffering concussion falling off the back of a golf cart.
A statement from cricket Australia read: "There was an unfortunate accident at a team golf day on Monday in which Glenn Maxwell fell from a golf cart and suffered a concussion.
"Maxwell has been assessed by CA medical staff and been ruled out of Saturday’s World Cup match against England. He will continue to be assessed.
"The accident occurred during a scheduled day off. There is no further injury, beyond the concussion."
Drinks come out after another steady over in which Quinton de Kock again shows his intent, trying to reverse sweep Mitchell Santner but getting in a bit of a tangle.
Not the quickest start but with just one wicket down so far, South Africa will be happy with the foundation that is being put in place.
Quinton de Kock has had a bit of luck.
He was dropped on 12 by Glenn Phillips. Well, I say dropped, had it been taken it would have been catch of the tournament...

We were just saying that De Kock has started to allow himself time to get in and he has previously spoken about being able to go through the gears.
This is De Kock's last engagement in 50-over cricket, but given South Africa are co-hosting in 2027, there is a feeling that perhaps he could be convinced to come out of ODI retirement for it.
A quieter end to the over but it's a productive one for South Africa with 12 runs from it.
It feels like Quinton de Kock wants to takes things up a notch after a slow start.

We know De Kock is a flashy player, but what he has developed is his ability to give himself time.

That wasn't a finesse-based shot, that was not a roll your wrist through it shot, it was I'm going to whack the head off a werewolf kind of shot.
New Zealand have done a good job of keeping Quinton de Kock tied down early on but the South Africa opener has broken free!
After pulling powerfully through square leg for four, he launches Tim Southee back over his head for six next ball.
He looks like he has been wanting to do that for some time.

I think Mitchell Santner was a lot of people's picks for the leading bowler of this World Cup and with 14 wickets, he's right up there.

This rather claggy start for South Africa continues.
Mitchell Santner has been brilliant so far at this World Cup and he is varying his pace nicely so far today.
That is keeping the batters on their toes and they can only manage two singles from the over.

I think South Africa like to start quite slowly. That's because they know the power they have got in the middle over and they need to give them the balls to be able to hit out.

Even on their way to the big first innings scores South Africa have made in this World Cup, their first 10 over powerplay has not been particularly productive.
48-1, 53-0, 59-1, and 44-2, and, as we know, on a few of those occasions they went on to make very big scores.
Good over from Tim Southee and after a good stop from Rachin Ravindra at fine leg, it costs only two.
South Africa are happy to bide their time before accelerating late in the innings but New Zealand have done a good job of limiting the boundary balls in the meantime.
