Keshav Maharaj's celebration is testament to his grandmother, for giving him all the opportunities he had. He does it for every wicket.

    Santner b Maharaj 7 (NZ 100-6) Target 358

    Never mind, Santner departs.

The all-rounder attempts to drive square, having found the boundary off Maharaj's previous delivery, but is bowled through the gate and his innings comes to an early end.

Excellent response from the spinner and New Zealand's defeat is looking very much luck an inevitability, rather than a possibility.

  3. NZ 100-5published at 22.3 overs

    Target 358

A first boundary from Mitchell Santner and more of the intent that New Zealand need to show, especially with all of the top five batters already dismissed.

A nice drive from Santner, hitting that Maharaj delivery through extra cover.

That brings up three figures for New Zealand, still a long way to go, though.

Pretty pointless from New Zealand at the moment. I know you need to bat your overs to protect your run rate, but you do actually need to score runs.

Tom Latham's decision to bowl is looking stranger and stranger. I completely understand New Zealand had a plan, that you want to do what you do best, but you don't want to let South Africa bat first.

  6. NZ 95-5published at 22 overs

    Target 358

More tidy stuff from South Africa's quick bowlers. Lungi Ngidi bowls the latest over, with a single apiece from Santner and Phillips being all that comes from it.

It is slow stuff from this sixth-wicket partnership so far and the chase is looking more and more impossible, while Tom Latham's decision to bowl first in this match will only provide more questions than it does answers.

This was the latest of the five wickets to fall, with Daryl Mitchell departing on 24 following this catch from David Miller.

  8. NZ 93-5published at 21 overs

    Target 358

New Zealand's heaviest defeat in World Cup history was by 215 runs against Australia in 2007, the target to avoid being worse than that today is 142.

A good over there from Keshav Maharaj, with just two singles coming from it.

    Thanks, Sam.

South Africa's bowling has been absolutely superb to watch so far and all five members of this attack have played a vital role so far.

I'm due to take you through the next 10 overs, but if New Zealand wickets keep on tumbling, we may not even get there...

  10. NZ 91-5published at 20 overs

    Target 358

Maiden over from Kagiso Rabada as he tests Mitchell Santner with a very sharp short ball and then sends the next ball past the outside edge.

Superb bowling from South Africa. They're well on track for another big win and to take you through the next phase of this game, it's over to Jonty Colman.

New Zealand's heaviest ever defeat to South Africa in World Cups in terms of runs was by 78 runs at Edgbaston in 1999.

Net run rate is so important. I didn't think there'd be a call for fourth sport, but now you need to look after it.

  13. NZ 91-5published at 19 overs

    Target 358

We're into protecting net run-rate territory now.

New Zealand look to be heading for a third defeat on the spin and send in Mitchell Santner ahead of Jimmy Neesham, presumably with the aim of batting out a few overs rather than trying for quick runs.

South Africa are sending a message. They've played with so much control, aggression at the right time, so disciplined. They're such a well-oiled unit.

It was in the air for a long, long time. He got the elevation, he didn't get the distance.

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 18.3 overs

    Mitchell c Miller b Maharaj 24 (NZ 90-5)

Daryl Mitchell hits this a very long way but straight up.

He tries to get after Keshav Maharaj in the spinner's first over, skips down and wallops the ball high.

It hangs in the air for an age but David Miller settles himself under it and takes the catch.

That, in all probability, is that for New Zealand.

No wicket for Kagiso Rabada that time but he did account for Tom Latham not long ago...

  18. Not outpublished at 18 overs

    NZ 90-4

    Nothing doing.

Nobody seemed particularly interested but I think it was David Miller at slip who persuaded Temba Bavuma to send it upstairs.

Great delivery from Kagiso Rabada but a flatline on UltraEdge.

I think it's his back pad with the bat.

  20. South Africa reviewpublished at 18 overs

    NZ 90-4

Glenn Phillips wants to try and put a bit of pressure back on the South Africa bowlers but after good running gets him two to square leg, he is beaten two balls in a row by Kagiso Rabada.

In fact, South Africa have left it very late before calling for a review for caught behind after the second of them.
