  1. Aus 178-4published at 32.4 overs

Cameron Green just about holds on to his bat this time when he hooks a short ball Mark Wood to pick up a couple of runs early in the over. He must have slightly sweaty palms as he's really struggling to grip it with cross-batted shots.

Wood strays with his lines with his fourth ball and Marnus Labuschagne square drives him for four.

  2. drinks break

Aus 166-4 at drinkspublished at 32 overs

In the field England are, as Tony Greig used to say, putting in the "hord yorrds".

Jonny Bairstow with a diving stop on the boundary saves a couple of runs off the final ball of Adil Rashid's over.

Australia's run-rate is 5.18 as the players get drinks.

What an extraordinary thing that is - his gloves must be wet. The umpire went diving for cover.

  4. Aus 162-4published at 31 overs

Mark Wood bounces Cameron Green with his fifth ball.

Green takes on the hook shot, but inexplicably lets go of his bat during the shot and it ends up square of the wicket.

The ball, meanwhile, is spooned up in the air. Three England players - Wood, Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes - converge but nobody is able to get under it and it thuds into the turf on the square.

The Aussie all-rounder finishes the over with another square drive for four.

The pace of Wood is great when it's in the right place, but when there's width against somebody like Green with his strength, it's going to the boundary.

  6. Aus 158-4published at 30.4 overs

Mark Wood back into the attack as Jos Buttler looks to extract some spice from this pitch.

Wood's third delivery is slightly wider and is waspishly dispatched to the boundary by Cameron Green.

The England quick bowler beats the outside edge of Green's bat with a tighter line from his next ball.

  7. Aus 154-4published at 30 overs

Marnus Labuschagne, sporting a canary yellow sweat band on his left wrist, is tempted into a slightly aerial straight drive against Adil Rashid.

The England leggie reacts to dive forward to stop it as the ball drops just short of catching height. 'Ooooh' gasps Ben Stokes.

Labuschagne has 63 off 78 balls.

Pakistan have recovered nicely from the early departure of Abdullah Shafique, with opener Fakhar Zaman leading the charge with 43 from 28 balls and captain Babar Azam with 25.

Pakistan are looking to be positive and take on the challenge, with boundaries flowing regularly, despite the pressure of such an imposing target.

After the first 10-over powerplay, they are 75-1 - at the same stage, New Zealand were 66-1.

Trent Boult has been expensive for New Zealand, conceding 42 from his four overs so far so Kane Williamson has turned to his spinner Mitchell Santner early.

  12. Aus 146-4published at 28 overs

TV pictures cut to some Nepal fans in the ground at Ahmedabad. They beat UAE yesterday to qualify for next year's T20 World Cup. Great to see one of the most exciting Associate nations at a major tournament. Huge passion for the game in the foot of the Himalayas.

Anyway, Marnus Labuschagne gets down low to gently guide Adil Rashid through point with a gentle dab off the second-to-last ball of the over. The Aussie left-hander finishes with a more aggressive cut through point which beats the sweeper and adds four more to the total.

Australia's approach since those two wickets has been old school - just knocking the ball into the gaps.

  14. Aus 138-4published at 27 overs

There's bit of West Ham's ground in the architecture of the Narendra Modi Stadium. There was once mooted talk of cricket being played at the London Stadium. They've had baseball there after all.

Into that period of the game where Australia's batter content to milk the singles against the spinners then wait for the bad ball.

Liam Livingstone feeds a low full toss to Cameron Green with the penultimate ball of his fourth over and the tall all-rounder uses his reach to whip it the mid-wicket boundary.

  15. Aus 129-4published at 26 overs

It's been a patient knock by Marnus Labuschagne, overall. There has been the odd bit of aggressive strokeplay in there.

  16. 50 runs

Fifty for Labuschagnepublished at 25.4 overs

Cut square by Marnus Labuschagne for a single. A half-century off 63 balls for the Aussie batter.

  17. Aus 128-4published at 25.3 overs

A oconflab between Moeen Ali and Jos Buttler during that last over. England are hatching a few plans to nip Cameron Green out early here.

Marnus Labuschagne, meanwhile, has twice worked Adil Rashid square to move on to 49.

    Thanks, Mike,

At the halfway point of Australia's innings and Jos Buttler will feel pretty happy with where England are given the cynicism around his decision at the toss.

  19. Aus 124-4published at 25 overs

Labuschange edges Moeen and the ball squirts away for four through third.

He's now on 45 from 59 runs, and Australia will be looking for him to push on with greater impetus now.

Speaking of which, we'll change gears on the live text too - here's Timothy Abraham for the rest of the innings.
