    Hashmat 21, Zadran 80

Josh Hazlewood has been excellent throughout this tournament, particularly with his economy rate.

Today is no different. Just a pair of singles from his latest over and Australia have managed to stop Afghanistan in their tracks after those couple of overs where they looked to be accelerating.

Australia definitely have the flexibility to give Mitchell Starc a few more overs. There is nothing like bowling in a game. He can get his ryhthm in the nets or in practice or by bowling in the middle with no batter but nothing compares to that competitive game nature.

If Afghanistan have a few good overs and look like getting 280 I don't think you should bowl him though because that would be a good score.

Hashmatullah Shahidi has to take the risks now with Ibrahim Zadran batting the innings as the anchor. It is down to the players coming in to take the risks.

  4. drinks break

    Afg 157-2published at 33 overs

After being taken for a couple of boundaries in his last over, Adam Zampa comes back well.

He finds a challenging length and varies his pace smartly to keep Afghanistan to two singles from it.

    Time for drinks.

It is a T20 game now with 18 overs and eight wickets left. Can Afghanistan accelerate? They haven't hit any sixes yet? Can they?

  6. Afg 155-2published at 32 overs

A wild swipe from Hashmatullah Shahidi ends a very good over from Josh Hazlewood.

The Australia seamer is hitting a very good length consistently so Hashmatullah was confident he knew where the ball would pitch but he completely lost his shape as he tried to smash it leg side.

    No shortage of intent, though...

This is really good from Afghanistan. They are putting Adam Zampa under pressure and you have to.

He is quality bowler but you can't just allow him to bowl.

  8. Afg 153-2published at 31 overs

    Four more!

It's Hashmatullah Shahidi on the charge now, skipping down and thumping the ball over Adam Zampa's head.

Very good over for Afghanistan, 11 from it, including one for a wide that led to a review for a stumping.

Has to be done, of course, but everyone in the ground knew it was not out. Hashmatullah never left his crease.

Adam Zampa is a human being! He can get hit for boundaries.

It was a floaty delivery, not like a Zampa delivery.

  10. Afg 146-2published at 30.1 overs

Full and floaty outside off from Adam Zampa to start his new spell and there is one of the boundaries Michael Vaughan was calling for!

Cracked over extra cover for four by Ibrahim Zadran. Super shot.

Afghanistan have got a decent base. Generally you say to double your total after 30/31 overs and if they do that and get 280 they'll be in the game.

They are going to have to take some risks against Adam Zampa and try and hit some boundaries off him.

    Thanks, Jonty.

If we go by the double your score at 30 overs maxim, Afghanistan are on for a very useful total.

Especially given the spinners at their disposal on a pitch taking a bit of turn.

  13. Afg 142-2published at 30 overs

Hazlewood's return with the ball is met with runs for Afghanistan, who casually knock it around the field for six in the over, but no boundaries.

That's it from me for now, I shall hand you over to Sam Drury to take you through the rest of this innings.

Glenn Maxwell has done this a lot in the tournament. Teams don't seem willing to take any risks against him.

He bowls it into the wicket so you can only really hit square off him. He varies his pace and he thinks like a batter, which is important. He also gets through his overs quickly.

  15. Afg 136-2published at 29 overs

Another quick over of spin from Maxwell, with just three runs coming from it as a result.

Captain Cummins opts to take himself out of the attack, with Josh Hazlewood, who got the wicket of Rahmanullah Gurbaz earlier today, returning.

I reckon Australia are the best fielding side in the tournament. They all move so well and are so athletic.

  17. Afg 133-2published at 28 overs

Five come from the over in total and barring that one loose delivery, it is largely on the money from the Australian skipper.

Glenn Maxwell continues at the other end for what is already his eighth over of the day.

  18. Afg 132-2published at 27.2 overs

Cummins' attempts to keep going short misses its intended target, going down the leg side. Hashmatullah has a little swat at it and it goes past Josh Inglis and away for four, without Hashmatullah fully getting hold of the delivery.

Any loose runs like that at this stage, Afghanistan will gladly swallow up.

Here is how Glenn Maxwell broke the second-wicket partnership, with Rahmat Shah caught on 30.

  20. Afg 128-2published at 27 overs

That was Australia's 13th over of spin and Afghanistan have scored just two boundaries against it so far.

More interestingly, Adam Zampa has only bowled four of them and when we do see him return, Afghanistan need to find a way to see him off and ideally, target any bad balls from him.
