The tournament has really not lived up to expectations. But Sri Lanka did beat England.

The confidence is low for Sri Lanka. The players that need to stand up in situations like this haven't done so.

  2. SL 112-7published at 21 overs

Another quick and damage-free over from Mitchell Santner, conceding just one single.

He now has figures of 2-8 off five overs and has been very impressive so far.

Lockie Ferguson returns to the attack from the other end.

    Thanks, Ffion.

The good news for Sri Lanka is that this is not their lowest first innings score in a World Cup match, having been skittled for 86 in 1975.

However, providing it ends quickly and New Zealand take the opportunity in front of them, this could do wonders for the Black Caps' net run-rate, and prove disaster for Sri Lanka's.

  4. SL 111-7published at 20 overs

More spin as part-timer Rachin Ravindra comes into the attack.

Chamika Karunaratne makes the most of a loose one drifting down the leg side, sweeping nicely for four precious runs.

And that's my cue to hand over to Jonty Colman, who will take you through the next 10 overs. It can't be as chaotic as the first lot, can it?

And here's how he got his first today.

  6. SL 105-7published at 19 overs

Santner has 2-7 from his four overs so far - he now has 15 wickets in nine matches in this World Cup.

    So impressive.

It's not just game over for Sri Lanka but the run rate might be affecting their Champions Trophy chances. They are in trouble.

An interesting thing that New Zealand have in their favour is that they can really exploit their front line resources. They could treat this like a 40-over game and try and bowl Sri Lanka out.

    De Silva c Mitchell b Santner 19 (SL 105-7)

    Or not...

It's almost an exact copy of Mathews' dismissal: slow, flighted and drawing the outside edge.

Another beautiful bit of bowling and Sri Lanka continue to crumble.

If Sri Lanka are going to get anywhere near 200, Dhananjaya de Silva is going to have to score most of them.

  11. SL 105-6published at 18 overs

Chamika Karunaratne joins Dhananjaya de Silva in the middle, and this should be a period of calm for Sri Lanka to settle down a bit.

Their score prediction is currently at 198, which probably won't be anywhere near enough given the power in New Zealand's batting.

New Zealand will be seeing a huge opportunity to dismiss Sri Lanka. They will see that they can wrap this innings up and have a good net run-rate. The net run-rate could be a huge impact on who makes the semi-finals.

  13. SL 104-6published at 17 overs

Just two runs and a wicket from Santner's over, who is whizzing through his overs in his usual consistent manner.

A big challenge for Sri Lanka's lower order to get something competitive on the board now.

Another wonderful delivery from Santner. Wide on the crease and exposing that edge of the bat.

    Mathews c Mitchell b Santner 16 (SL 104-6)

    Santner strikes!

Angelo Mathews looked like he was patiently setting himself to play a long innings, but is undone by a beautiful bit of bowling from the spinner.

Slow, loopy and a hint of turn to take the outside edge after a defensive prod from Mathews, and Daryl Mitchell takes a smart catch at slip.

A handy partnership between Mathews and De Silva is broken.

Tim Southee returns after drinks, having taken 1-35 from his opening three overs.

And he is greeted by the most delightful lofted drive for six from Dhananjaya de Silva, the shot coming from absolutely nowhere after a quiet start.

He holds the pose, admiring his work, producing a contender for the shot of the day so far.

The players take a drink after an opening 15 overs that has treated us to a bit of everything.

While they take a break, treat yourselves to the best of Kusal Perera's brilliant but baffling half-century.

    This is encouraging for Santner.

Tough chance. Very, very tough. Mitchell Santner gets a bit of turn and finds a thin outside edge, but the ball bursts through Tom Latham's gloves.

One of those that either sticks or it doesn't. But the spin is promising for Santner, and Sri Lanka won't mind seeing that either if they can get a decent total on the board.

  20. SL 91-5published at 14 overs

It's boundaries or nothing at the moment.

Dhananjaya de Silva cracks one past point for four, beating the dive of Glenn Phillips - which is quite the achievement in itself.
