There is always an element of comedy when Kohli gets out. The silence is one thing, as if scoring 50 is just nowhere near enough to keep the crowd happy.

But Kohli himself pauses for a few seconds in disbelief as if to say, how on earth do you have the audacity to get me out?

Alas. Just missed a straight one.

Kohli has been flirting outside the off stump against Roelof van der Merwe today, playing a few low percentage dabbles on the off side and been fortunate not to get a nick on them.

This time Van der Merwe gets his man.

Kohli is bowled! Silence. Shock. There is disbelief around Bengaluru because Roelof van der Merwe has bowled Kohli for 51.

In a game like this, it seemed almost impossible it would happen.

Kohli b Van der Merwe 51 (Ind 200-3)

Silence! It's 50 and out for Virat Kohli!

Darted in quicker and flatter by Van der Merwe, and Kohli simply misses a straight one as he goes back to play it through the off side.

As expected, Roelof van der Merwe loves it. The double fist pump, the roar, the eyes bulging. That is a huge breakthrough.

Listen to that roar around the Chinnaswamy. Virat Kohli is halfway to his destiny.

    Ind 198-2

Virat Kohli retains the strike from the last ball of the over and the crowd picks up again, realising that he's on 49.

And he obliges, taking the single and treating them all to exactly what they came for.

A typically elegant innings from 53 balls. Now, they'll be expecting a 50th ODI century.

    No pressure.

Good effort from Bas de Leede but he was never stopping that. Punished through the leg side by Shreyas Iyer.

  9. Ind 194-2published at 27.1 overs

Banged in short, and easily pulled for four by Shreyas Iyer who has joined Virat Kohli in starting to time the ball very nicely.

There's a fielder out on the square leg boundary but it's been executed to perfection and races to the ropes.

  10. Ind 190-2published at 27 overs

    Kohli 48, Shreyas 24

Fair play to the Netherlands, they are massively up against it but they are still giving absolutely everything in the field.

A misfield at short fine leg seems to gift Shreyas Iyer a certain boundary but it's chased down to within an inch of the boundary rope and makes the batters run three.

A bit of fire from Roelof van der Merwe concludes the over, mock-throwing the ball back as Kohli takes a couple of strides out of his crease.

That'll wake the crowd up a little more.

This is a very good wicket. It is flat.

Hit away beautifully. Shreyas didn't time it perfectly but it runs away for four.

  13. Ind 184-2published at 26 overs

In the blink of an eye, the fifty partnership comes up between Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer.

Well, it's actually come off 48 balls but it's seemed so effortless.

And just as I'm about to say that most of it has come from Kohli's boundaries and easy rotation of strike, Shreyas whacks one down the ground without much timing for four.

A better throw and he was out because the extra distance he needed to cover after dropping his bat.

Shreyas Iyer thought he was going to amble back for the second, the fielder fires it in and he drops his bat.

  16. Ind 178-2published at 25 overs

It becomes all about Kohli when he's in the middle, so it becomes quite easy to forget that there's someone out there batting with him.

Shreyas Iyer calls him back for two, a rather risky one, but gets back in time after dropping his bat in the process and scampering home. Keeper Scott Edwards was potentially too focused on Kohli's end, that he wasn't alert to the run out opportunity.

A good over from the Dutch point of view as they reach the halfway mark, with no boundaries scored from it.

There is a high chance that the Netherlands won't play another ODI until the next World Cup.

A lot of these lads playing for them have normal jobs, proper 9-5 jobs.

Kohli bisects the two fielders in the deep. Not the best of deliveries.

  19. Ind 173-2published at 24 overs

Virat Kohli picks the gap perfectly on the leg side to help himself to four more, as Logan van Beek drops one a little too short.

    Expertly done.

He then lets out a grunt of frustration as he drills the last ball of the over straight to mid-off. With very little to celebrate at the moment, I guess that's a win for the bowler.

  20. Ind 165-2published at 23 overs

Aryan Dutt recovers well, just three more runs coming from the rest of the over.

Virat Kohli has started to pick up the pace but it's still pretty sedate compared to the start that Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provided. We were treated to some incredible hitting.
