Is it too early to say that India are looking on their way to the final?

  2. Ind 153-1published at 21 overs

Not sure it's happened in ODIs, Andrew.

Although it has definitely happened in List A cricket, rather controversially when Somerset declared against Worcestershire in 1979 after just 2.4 overs. That's one for another day...

Mitchell Santner, number 74 on his back, has good control against Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli. Both content, again, to wait for the opportune moment to play a big shot. Three singles off the over.

Andrew McDermott: India off to a flying start. Has any team ever declared in 50-over cricket? Could be on the cards here.

Glenn Phillips has been a golden arm for New Zealand in this tournament. He's such a good competitor.

Shubman Gill looks to get things going again. He skips down the pitch, light on his feet, to Glenn Phillips and biffs him back over his head for six.

Just when New Zealand look to have wrestled back a bit of momentum there's a release of pressure with a big shot from India.

Here are the best bits of Gill's half-century.

It seems there is nothing that these batters are doing that can be exploited by the Kiwi bowlers at the moment.

  8. Ind 142-1published at 19 overs

Mitchell Santner digs his heel into an area just before the pitch to re-establish his bowling mark.

He wheels through that tall rather jolty action of his, beginning with a couple of dots. Can he build some pressure?

Virat Kohli and Shuman Gill both rehearse some big pulls but decline to play them - content to farm the strike for now. Four singles.

A Right Guy: True ICT & cricket fans will always remember the impact knocks of Rohit Sharma, along with Kohli's 700+ runs & Gill's magnificent 100 in SF against NZ.

You always want to be that person who gets their team through to a final. And Shubman Gill is proving himself here.

  12. Ind 138-1published at 18 overs

Both India's batters donning caps now that it's spin from both ends.

Glenn Phillips, sporting sunglasses, is doing his best to stem the tide of runs here. He blows on his sweaty palms between deliveries in an attempt to dry them.

Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill approach his first over with a degree of caution, happy to work him square of the wicket for singles.

    Six off the over.

    Thanks, Sam.

India are upping the ante again after Rohit Sharma's explosive start to the innings.

The heads of the New Zealand's players must have been spinning after seeing the ball disappear to all parts. They've regained their balance a little but the run rate is still up at nearly eight at an over.

  14. Ind 132-1published at 17 overs

Down the track one ball but deep in his crease the next. Shubman Gill waits and plays a lovely late cut, bisecting the two fielders behind square. Four more.

India have picked up the run-rate again - it almost dipped below 7.5 at one stage...

I'm off to get a brew so to take you through the next stage of the innings, it is over to Timothy Abraham.

That nearly landed in David Beckham's box! I wonder what he's like at catching cricket balls.

  16. 6 runs

    Ind 128-1published at 16.4 overs

New Zealand's spinners were starting to settle in - and Shubman Gill couldn't be doing with that.

A flighted delivery from Mitchell Santner is wide as well, allowing the India opener to skip down the track and pump the ball back over his head for a straight six.

New Zealand have a task in front of them. They cannot let India get a big score here. They need to find a way of transferring this pressure back when they do bowl.

  18. 50 runs

    Ind 121-1published at 16 overs

Good over from Rachin Ravindra to get things started again after drinks.

Just three singles from it as he keeps Virat Kohli tied down for three balls for a spell.

A single from the last brings up the fifty partnership from 46 balls.

Afghanistan have been the biggest surprise of this tournament for me. They've been my favourite takeaway. It shows you should never write any teams off.

A lot of people have had a downer on the format in this competition. But I do think there's a bit of life in the old dog yet. I sense it's turning around.
