Huge appeal for lbw from Mitchell Starc as he strikes Rohit Sharma on the pad first up.

A bit of early swing but the ball was missing leg stump by a long way. Not out.

What an atmosphere in Ahmedabad, though. The noise is just incredible.

Knockout cricket is fascinating to see who is going to throw the first punch. We know India will come out hard but if Australia can get a quick wicket or two, they will silence the crowd and that is what they will be aiming to do.

Amazed Cummins has opted to bowl. Best thing was to do what India would have wanted which is to bat first. Australia have potentially handed the advantage to the hosts.

India booked their place in the final with a 70-run win over New Zealand in Mumbai.

It sounds comfortable but the Black Caps did put them under a bit of pressure in the chase...

Meanwhile, Australia got over the line in a nervy semi-final against South Africa.

Set 213 to win, they slipped to 137-5 but kept their cool to win by three wickets.

"India's players can seal cricketing immortality by winning a home World Cup, while the Australians could take a leaf out of Manchester City's book with a famous 2023 treble," writes Matthew Henry.

"Becoming 50-over world champions in the same year they were crowned world Test champions and retained the Ashes urn in England would complete a successful 12 months."

I'm not an expert but are Australia overthinking the spin and the dew, hoping that it gets easier to get second? But I am still surprised. I thought it was a certainty that whoever would win the toss would bat.

I am stunned at that call at the toss. Australia's advantage is their opening batters, their top order, taking on the quick bowlers. It is the blueprint that has worked for them and India have the same strength. So you are giving India the chance to use that strength first so I cannot believe it.

They have given them a golden opportunity. Of course India wanted to bat first and Pat Cummins has just given them exactly what they wanted.

It was absolute mayhem when I was outside a little earlier. You may be able to spot the TV crews on top of the buildings in the picture above.

In the ground people have taken their seats very early. It's pretty much full with blue already.

India captain Rohit Sharma: "I'd have batted first, it looks a good pitch, it's a big game, let's put runs on the board. It's going to be amazing.

"The biggest occasion in terms of cricket events. We have to stay nice and calm and get the job done."

"It looks a bit of a dry wicket, bowl on it during the day and back ourselves to chase whatever we need to.

"Dew is one factor, it gets quite dewy here at night. It feels like this venue has got better and better to bat so hopefully the same today.
