So England travel to Trinidad and Tobago with the series still to play for - their next match is on Tuesday, with a final one to come on Thursday (both at 20:00 GMT).

Can they turn round a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2? Today was the first step on that path.

Relive the day's action with Timothy Abraham's report...

And we'll see you on in a couple of days.

  2. 'It's what we're here for'published at 21:18 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2023

England captain Jos Buttler: "Great to keep the series alive, a fantastic win. Any time you chase 220 is a fantastic innings. Credit to Phil Salt, it's a fantastic innings, full credit to him.

"I think we've tried a lot with the ball, a few guys trying in different phases. The harder you can bowl into the wicket here the better with the spinners, and the fast bowlers can take pace off but not too much. The big hitters can get hold of you, as we showed today.

"Phil Salt has such great intent from ball one. It's something we've asked him to do, but for him to go on and stay in the game a bit longer, it can surprise you how much he can do in the end.

"It's great to get a win, it's what we're here for."

  3. 'I think we have quality guys to do the job'published at 21:16 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2023

West Indies captain Rovman Powell: "It's obviously disappointing to score 220 and lose, but the guys gave it a fair shot. It was a good effort - we didn't have the best start, but the way they finished was commendable and the bowler's bowled well in patches.

"I think we have quality guys to do the job. It's just unfortunate it didn't come off today, it's a small ground, good wicket. Credit to Phil Salt.

"We try to hit as many sixes as possible and improve in the areas we aren't as strong. The guys are improving steadily and that's encouraging."

  4. 'It's about doing it my way'published at 21:14 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2023

Player of the match Phil Salt: "It feels like it's been a long time coming. It's special to do it now, with them being able to take the series today.

"We've been talking about someone standing up and being the matchwinner. Someone in our side standing up.

"You can't get 40 off 20 and then get 10 off 10 balls. It's about doing it my way, freeing Jos up because he's one of the best in the world."

We saw intent throughout. Phil Salt is important for Jos Buttler, he normally goes off to flier, Buttler plays second fiddle and then goes onto the big score. This time their roles were reversed.

It's lovely to see a smile back on Jos Buttler's face.

That was exhilarating, you thought they were dead and buried three quarters through that chase. But Phil Salt timed his innings perfectly and Harry Brook showed his versatility to come in, a little bit lower than he has previously in this series, and clear the ropes.

Jos Buttler, who's been sat topless on the boundary with a towel slung over his shoulders, swiftly dons a vest top and ventures onto the field to greet his batters.

The England captain is full of smiles - you haven't seen much of that lately.
