    King b Moeen 8 (WI 8-0)

A delivery that gripped and turned for Moeen Ali bowls the left-handed Brandon King through the gate.

The West Indies opener seemed caught in two minds, whether to come forward to go back. In the end it's a nothing shot and the ball slides past his bat and clatters into the stumps.

Brandon King off to a flyer with back-to-back fours, thrashing Moeen Ali through point then walloping him over the top.

    Wowzers. A confident start.

An interesting decision to bowl. I think when we looked at the wicket the other day and saw how it played out we were all surprised that it became as stoppy and hard to hit on. We anticipated it being a better wicket than that.

If you're playing on the same wicket two days later then generally you would expect the groundsman wouldn't have been able to do anything to make it a better surface, but both captains seem convinced it will be better.

  5. 'Competition for places'published at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2023

England left-arm pace bowler Tymal Mills, speaking to TNT Sports: "I've been in and out of the team the last four or five years so it's pleasing to get back in this squad. Hopefully I can come back to the West Indies for a T20 World Cup next year.

"I didn't bowl quite as well as I would liked in Barbados the other day. I'm one of a lot of bowlers who are trying to get in that World Cup squad. There's a lot of competition for places.

"We have a lot of guys who are not far away from putting in a good performance so a big game today."

This was touted as a reinvigoration of the white ball team and it hasn't gone to plan so far. England need to kickstart this tour and kickstart this little period of white ball cricket.

  7. Postpublished at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2023

West Indies captain Rovman Powell: "Maybe I would have chased but it looks a pretty good wicket, it looks better than the last game so hopefully it provides runs for us batters. I think it's a better wicket, the first time it started off a little bit tacky and generally got better through the day, so I imagine a day or two after and rolling it should be better.

"We need to continue getting partnerships. In both games we lost four quick wickets and if we as a batting group stop that then we can be much more dangerous at the back end.

"Today provides an opportunity to win the series, something we haven't done to England in a long time. So the guys are upbeat and ready to go. We have one change, Sherfane Rutherford comes in, Shimron Hetmyer misses out."

  10. 'Every ball is an event'published at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2023

England captain Jos Buttler: "I think we need to execute those key areas again. We've been in a fantastic position with the ball and let them get 10 or 15 more than we would have liked. When we have the momentum and we need to hold it as long as possible.

"The game comes down to execution. You need to be clear and commited to each and every ball. In T20 every ball is a massive event no matter what has happened in the over beforehand.

"It's about recognising moments as well. We have to play with freedom - hitting sixes and saying don't get out doesn't work so you have to give the guys a bit of rope as well. It's about keeping the pressure on the opposition for longer."

  11. England win the toss and bowl firstpublished at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2023

A few moments ago West Indies skipper Rovman Powell gave the coin a toss and England counterpart Jos Buttler called heads.
