What is going on?!
Zak Crawley drills one straight to mid-off and India erupt once more.
Again, we're going to the technology to check if it was cleanly taken. Mohammed Siraj is claiming it.

After a long, long wait for ultra edge, it is confirmed that Joe Root has hit it.
He was all smiles during that delay. Never looked that bothered, so India waste a review.
A tense, tense wait for the technology...
My word, it is all happening.
Jadeja is absolutely convinced that he's got Joe Root lbw.

Pope was playing with quite hard hands and poked at it from Jadeja. He's going to have to change his technique in India. It was a bit stabby.
Now England's main man is at the crease. If they're going to get any sort of score then Joe Root has to get runs.

That was a torturous from Pope. He never looked settled.
Pope c Rohit b Jadeja 1 (Eng 58-2)
That was inevitable.
Ollie Pope didn't look comfortable at all. He's always quite a twitchy starter but that was difficult to watch.
He prods at a good-length ball from Jadeja, gets an edge and Rohit Sharma snaffles a low catch at first slip. Pope hangs around for a bit to see if the catch carried but he's eventually told by the umpires to get going.
These pictures are really putting my set-up to shame, as I contemplate how many coffees is too many before 6am.

I am over in Singapore working this week so it's been a blessing having the cricket on at a reasonable time and in a nice climate! Back to the UK tomorrow and back to a cold bleak reality
Barra, Singapore
A thrilling first session comes to an end.
Where Ben Duckett looked so comfortable against the spinners, Ollie Pope looks quite the opposite. After numerous plays and misses and attempted sweeps, he gets off the mark with a simple dab down the ground for a single.
A good time for England to take a drink, and reset.
This isn't the only Test going on today with Australia and West Indies under way in the second Test from Brisbane.
That one is a day-night game with a pink ball and Josh Hazlewood has already struck to remove Windies opener Kraigg Brathwaite.
The tourists are 31-1 after 13 overs.
You can listen to commentary from our friends at ABC here.
A nervy start. Ollie Pope prods and pokes at Jadeja, who is whizzing through his overs in his trademark style.
He drives loosely, slicing one just past the close fielder on the off-side. He remains on nought from five balls and looks desperate to get that first run to his name.
Ollie Pope is in at three.
Not the easiest return to Test cricket after a dislocated shoulder, having to start against Ashwin and Jadeja on a turning pitch.

For as well as Duckett played - and he did play very well - he has fallen to his nemesis once more. The last time he toured here, in 2016, Duckett was dismissed three times in four innings by Ashwin. Make that four in five. Keep an eye on that battle throughout the series.

Former England spinner
That has just gone on with the arm. It is very difficult to line up a class bowler like Ashwin when the ball is turning and the odd one skidding through.
Duckett lbw b Ashwin 35 (Eng 55-1)
Umpire's call!
Duckett looks to the sky in frustration as he trudges off. The brilliance of Ashwin leads India's fightback after England's aggressive start.
It's the one that doesn't turn that deceives him, as it skids on a little quicker past the bat.
Test wicket number 491 for one of the greats.
Breakthrough! A very rare ball that Ben Duckett doesn't sweep, and he's pinned in front by Ashwin.
It's given out on the field, followed by a rather reluctant review. Looked out to me.
Phil Tufnell
Former England spinner
Ben Duckett said he would get the broom out and he is living up to his word. Those were a couple of fantastic sweeps. He's looking to play the shot every ball to Jadeja.
Two sweeps, two fours. Ben Duckett is not going to shy away from India's spin threat.
Jadeja smiles wryly as England reach their fifty in very good time.
Rohit Sharma, however, does not look like he's in a smiling mood.

Currently in Auckland NZ. 24c outside but no interest in that, much more fascinated by this battle between spin and attack minded batsmen.
