Thank you for joining us again today. We've had lots of runs, fewer wickets but plenty of great potato debate - and hopefully you'll be up bright and early tomorrow to do it all again.

We'll be back at 3:45 GMT to see if England can take their final three wickets as quickly as possible, or whether India will extend significantly on their already imposing lead of 175.

Until then, here's Stephan Shemilt's match report from Hyderabad.

    Bye for now!

  2. 'A tough day'published at 11:58 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

England bowling coach Jeetan Patel, speaking to TNT Sports: "A tough day for us. The guys put in a fantastic effort. It would have been nice if a few opportunites went our way but India batted really well, they put on some great partnerships. But we are really proud at the way we kept coming ball after ball and creating opportunities. At some point things turn for you and we just have to keep on going.

"Jack Leach bumped his knee yesterday and he bumped it again today. He would have been our guy to bowl all those overs. It's a shame for him as he was not able to move as good as he could have. He actually bowled really well considering.

"Tom had to take that on, Rehan bowled superbly, created some chances and added a bit of flair to the game, and so did Joe. So the beauty of having so many spinners in the attack is you can share that.

"Tom has created opportunities and taken a couple of wickets. It would have been nice for him to have taken some more, but it is the way the game is at the moment. His time will come.

"Joe started with a great wicket, we talked about how we were going to get into the game early. Then it was about short spells with the guys because Jack has that knee issue so we have to be careful with everyone else. You can't just have one guy bowling 40 overs."

India have never lost a home Test after taking a 100+ lead at the end of the first innings.

The ball keeping this low is not a good sign for England, and India's spinners will magnify that. India's spinners bowl at very different pace, they tend to bowl quicker and flatter, which makes life much more difficult for the batters.

Most of England's spinners are slower, and that gave India's batters a lot more time to adjust to the variable nature of the pitch. Ashwin, Axar and Jadeja will not allow that.

Clearly India's day again. They went up and down the gears nicely throughout the day.

They did gift wickets to England, but they end the day with a huge lead in the context of this game and they have set themselves up beautifully to ram that home tomorrow.

There were no thoughts of a declaration and rightly so. You score your runs in the first innings in India and we have seen significant signs of wear and tear on this pitch as the ball has continued to bounce lower and lower as the day went on.

Ravindra Jadeja ends the day unbeaten on 81. He has played marvellously and has been ably supported by Axar Patel and the others.

India are in the box seat and it is going to take a humongous effort from England to drag themselves back into it.

  6. 'We want as many runs as possible'published at 11:44 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

India batter KL Rahul, who hit 86, speaking on TNT Sports: "The hundred I scored in South Africa gave me a bit of confidence so I wanted to go out there, assess the pace and try and put runs on the board.

"The pitch is very different to South Africa for sure. All of us have grown up on wickets like this. There is a bit of turn but the pace is a bit slow and it got slower and slower, which was a challenge. I didn't change my game but I had to choose what shots to play at the right moments.

"I'm enjoying batting in the middle order. You get a bit more time in the dressing room to see what the conditions are like so you walk out with an idea of how the game is going and that is helping me play better.

"We didn't have any targets in mind, we just wanted to put as many runs on the board as possible."

England started well, getting that wicket in the first over, but now India are in a very, very good position. A lead of 150 plus on this pitch which is now starting to keep low, it's going to be very difficult for England to get back into it.

Both India batters are settled, so this lead could extend further still. The inexperience of England's bowlers came to the fore, and they were quite one-dimensional.

The composition of their bowling line-up is something they are going to have to think about for the rest of the series.

A difficult day for England. Yashasvi Jaiswal made 80, KL Rahul 86 and Ravi Jadeja is unbeaten on 81. He'll have an eye on a century tomorrow before India declare, you'd expect.

It was a ruthless display of dominance in their home conditions, which we have come to expect.

Mark Wood has bowled 13 wicketless overs, Jack Leach battled with a knee problem, Rehan Ahmed took one while Tom Hartley claimed two but was again expensive.

Joe Root, the part-timer, was by far the most effective bowler. He has 2-77 from 24 overs.

  9. Close of play - Ind 421-7published at 110 overs

My word. Axar Patel ends the day with another slog sweep for four and that ends a comprehensively dominant day for India.

The boundaries mean we won't have time for another over.

India end day two with a lead of 175.

  10. Ind 417-7published at 109.5 overs

Well, where has this come from!?

A cross-batted swipe from Axar Patel brings him four more down the ground, before he gets down on one knee and launches the next ball from Tom Hartley into the stands!

There's a bit of delay as members of the crowd have to try and find the ball.

This is India's number nine. Sigh.

Flown in this morning to watch England in Hyderabad for the weekend. A sluggish performance from England at times but what I must say is - the people of Hyderabad, you are fantastic!

  12. Ind 406-7published at 109 overs

We should have time for at least two more overs after this. How they are still behind on their over rate having bowled so much spin is bewildering. It's not as if the scoring rate has been sky high.

The increasing frequency of this variable bounce, particularly keeping low, is of great concern to England with the lead at 159.

  14. Ind 405-7published at 108 overs

    Lead by 159

Jack Leach gets through another, with a couple staying low and a couple ripping from middle stump down the leg side.

I suspect Ashwin is bursting with excitement.

  15. Ind 403-7published at 107 overs

Oh, lovely. The first boundary in what feels like an eternity as Ravindra Jadeja, with a one-legged flick, helps himself to four off Rehan Ahmed.

That takes India past 400, and wakes the crowd up after a lull.

  16. Ind 399-7published at 106 overs

    Lead by 153

Three runs from the over! That's electric by recent standards.

  17. Ind 396-7published at 105 overs

Here we go! Axar Patel gets down on one knee and slog sweeps Rehan Ahmed for four.

The lead passes 150. England are starting to look tired and they've had to go into the extra half an hour to get their overs in, so having a whack at a few to tire them out further is probably quite a smart move from India.

The game has really slowed down now.

India recognise that every single run counts a huge amount when trying to build this first innings lead.

It looks ominous already and they are just cementing their position in this game as the day draws to a close.

  19. Ind 392-7published at 104 overs

Certainly no signs of setting up a declaration here. Again, there's just one off the over.

Leach has bowled very short spells today which the knee issue would explain - the most he's bowled in one spell is seven, which was yesterday.

  20. Australia declare when still behindpublished at 11:05 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

Well, well, maybe a bit of Bazball has rubbed off on Australia after all?

Pat Cummins has declared with the Aussies 289-9, still 24 runs behind the West Indies' first innings score of 311.

It gives them about 30 minutes to bowl at the West Indies openers under the lights at the Gabba.

You can listen to that via our colleagues at ABC Grandstand.
