And Root responds! It's all happening in the first over of the day.

Jaiswal looks to attack again but the ball seems to get a little stuck in the pitch, and he fires it straight back to the bowler who takes the catch above his head.

A magnificent innings from the young opener comes to an end, but he looks rather disappointed to fall short of the ton.

The perfect start for the visitors.

Well, the defence doesn't last long.

A skip down the pitch and Yashasvi Jaiswal whacks Joe Root over his head for four!

    The audacity.

  3. Ind 119-1published at 23.1 overs

Bang on the money first ball from part-timer Root.

    Jaiswal is solid in defence.

    Right, time to get going.

Joe Root, who didn't bowl yesterday, has the ball in hand. Can he get a bit more out of the pitch than the others managed?

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who already has a Test century to his name at the age of 22, has his eyes on a second.

    Here we go.

Despite that, Ben Duckett still says that England are in a "strong position". Naturally.

"Hopefully we can take two or three wickets early [on day two] and put them under pressure," he said.

England's spinners looked drastically less threatening than India's yesterday, so that'll be easier said than done. But of course, we've seen this team do some bonkers things in the past 18 months - and we've learnt not to write them off.

Before play begins, you can read Duckett's thoughts here.

  6. What happened yesterday?published at 03:49 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Well, a lot.

England were all out for 246, thanks to a Stokes-and-the-tail classic in which the skipper made 70.

It looked a pretty good effort on a pitch that was already turning significantly but then Yashasvi Jaiswal came out and Bazballed his way to 76 from 70 balls.

India finished 119-1, just 127 runs behind, and don't be surprised if we see them try and bat all day today.

    Welcome back!

To those of you who are up at this hour again - respect. Get your coffee, get your blankets, and try not to wake up the rest of your house.

We're ready for day two, and if the first was anything to go by, I think we're in for some fun.
