  1. Ind 321-5published at 79 overs

    Lead by 75

Yet another lbw appeal is turned down off Joe Root. I'm losing count now.

He then offers the struggling KS Bharat a pie to pummel with ease to the square leg boundary. Say goodbye to all that pressure.

For all the soul-searching England supporters do about 50-over cricket, the county system, the 100... we'd be a lot better served if we put that energy into developing better spinners. The difference in quality compared to the Indians (or even the Aussies) is immense.

  3. Ind 314-5published at 78 overs

Singles are ticked from Rehan Ahmed's over.

The new ball is due in two overs' time. Will England take it and give Mark Wood a burst?

  4. Ind 310-5published at 77 overs

The second appeal looked pretty good but replays show it was just going over the stumps. Good call.

Tidy start from Root, the only England spinner to find any decent turn today. KS Bharat is struggling here. He has nine from 41 balls but he doesn't look solid.

  5. Ind 309-5published at 76.3 overs

Big appeal for lbw first ball! Not given - think there may have been a bit of bat.

And another third ball! That looked closer.

There have been a lot of appeals. I guess that's what reviews are for, if you don't use them all up in the first 14 overs.

    Cheers, Tom.

Right, we're back. Joe Root has the ball in hand. Is this the session that keeps England in the game, or the one where India take it away from them?

As the England players gather on the boundary before of the final session of day two, it is time for me to take a break.

It’s not a good team selection this is it? Picking three spinners when you already have Root as a third option is bad enough, but we’ve also picked a pace bowler who doesn’t do more than two or three overs in a spell. Without even Stokes being able to act as a back up second seamer now. I’m not saying we should send Woakes out there with medium pace, but we haven’t learned from dropping Anderson the game after he reverse swung the Indians to death have we? The only reason India play 3 spinners is because 2 of them are world class

80 more runs would be a lead of 143. I know this England team say they are happy to chase anything, but it would take an almighty effort to chase that down and build up a defendable total for India to go after in the fourth innings.

Definitely India's session, but they will be mindful of the fact that they have got to bat last on this pitch so they will just keep batting for as long as possible.

But with the second new ball available, that could make this last session very interesting.

England have found some control as well, which will help their bowlers' confidence. I think even though India are ahead, if England can keep them within around 75 or 80 more runs, the game is still open.

Clearly India's session again. The lead keeps on building.

England got a little bit of control back at the end there but it may be too little too late. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin will be licking their lips at the prospect of bowling again on this surface.

But I think India will just bat and bat. There will be no thoughts of a declaration today.

You score your runs in the first innings and there is so much time left in the game that there is no point in thinking about declaring. England need those last five wickets as quickly as they possibly can.

  13. Tea - India 309-5published at 76 overs

A single brings KS Bharat on strike and is beaten by a beauty from Rehan Ahmed that spits up off the pitch, with Bharat pulling out of the shot at the last moment.

He survives though to steer India to 309-5 at tea, a very handy lead of 63 runs.

Already the evening session feels crucial in this match. If India have the better of things they could take it away from England.

  14. Ind 308-5published at 75.1 overs

    Pressure released!

Rehan Ahmed drops one in short and down leg, gifting a four to Ravindra Jadeja, who powers the ball wide of the fielder at short fine leg to the rope.

  15. Ind 304-5published at 75 overs

Joe Root races through another maiden, so Rehan Ahmed will get another go before tea.

  16. Ind 304-5published at 74 overs

Make that 13 from nine as Rehan Ahmed bowls another maiden.

England quickly run to their positions at the end of the over. They will want to try and squeeze two overs in before tea.

  17. Ind 304-5published at 73 overs

Just the single of Joe Root's latest over. England have finally got a bit of control, conceding just 13 runs off the last eight overs.

  18. Carey falls after entertaining counter-attackpublished at 08:31 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey looked to be rescuing his side against West Indies, but has just fallen to Shamar Joseph for an entertaining 65 from 49 balls, including nine fours and a six.

Usman Khawaja is hanging in there, the opener on 35 from 75 balls but Australia are now six wickets down and still 161 runs behind on first innings.

It has been a remarkable effort from West Indies who will be looking to wrap things up as quickly as possible. Kemar Roach has three wickets, Alzarri Joseph two and his namesake Shamar the other.

You can find the scorecard and listen to ABC commentary from that game here.

  19. Ind 303-5published at 72 overs

The Broad bail switch does not bring instant reward for England, though Mark Wood continues to trouble the India batters, particularly KS Bharat who has yet to really get going.

I also think they have one eye on tea, which is just over 10 minutes away.
