The fizz has gone out of the India attack for now and Ollie Pope comes charging down the pitch to make a full ball from Axar a full toss.

Four more to the Surrey right-hander.

14 overs remain in the day. If these two can get to the close...

I just burst into applause on the train when Pope got his 100. Sadly, nobody else was listening to the cricket, so I'm guessing people thought I was applauding us pulling into Royston Station Now getting those "ahh bless him" smiles from other commuters.

The switch hits off the spinners will be the shot I remember this innings from Pope by.

Pope scored 205 against Ireland last summer. He made that brilliant 145 against New Zealand at Trent Bridge, 135 not out on a bouncy pitch in South Africa and 108 on a road in Rawalpindi.

This, for me, has been his best in an England shirt.

What has stood out for me has been Pope's footwork. He has been very clear in what he wants to do and that manifests itself in his footwork, especially when he has been coming forward.

    That has been the highlight.

Thanks Ffion. I'll be honest, I thought the game would be over by now.

England have a lead of 55. Ollie Pope is 101 not out.

    Superb.

And as the players take a drink while the ball is being changed, it's my cue to hand over to the eagerly-waiting Matthew Henry to guide you through the rest of the day.

It has been a wonderful Test innings from Pope - the way he has paced it, the stroke play and the defensive side.

Brilliant, brilliant Test innings in bowler-friendly conditions.

England now lead by 55. They're not safe, but they are fighting. And Pope has been excellent.

    There are promising signs.

That has got to be one of Pope's best hundreds given the conditions, the quality of India's attack and the predicament England are in.

    A special, special innings.

He flicks through the leg side for three and the England dugout rises. His celebrations are quite tame, a fist bump and a raise of the bat, but that doesn't match the magnitude of the achievement.

A 154-ball knock of class, patience and innovation against this attack and in these conditions? Quality.

A little scare for Ollie Pope as he skips down the pitch to Ashwin and misses, eventually padding it away safely.

    He's on to 97...

  13. Australia set 216 to beat West Indiespublished at 10:07 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January

It's a sad end to West Indies innings in Brisbane where Shamar Joseph, the tourists' star bowler on debut in the first Test, has to retire hurt after being hit on the toe.

He looks in real pain and has to be helped from the field.

That means the innings ends on 193-9 with Australia set 216 to win.

They will have a tricky 90 minutes under the lights, although it doesn't look like Joseph will be able to bowl.

I’ve heard that Jurgen bowls decent leg-spin and his time in England qualifies him to play for us. Strong rumour his surprise announcement yesterday signals a change of sport and we’ll see him in Andhra Pradesh for the second test.

No signs of the nervous 90s as Ollie Pope dab-sweeps Ashwin off middle stump for a single.

The Surrey duo take five runs comfortably off the over.

Good luck with the birthday party, Tim. I can't help you there but I can agree with you - the gulf in spin quality has been enormous.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj gifts England four more in byes as he sprays one down the leg side. The scoring has picked up in the last couple of overs.

The difference between the two teams is the quality of the spinners, not how many are on the pitch. I’d be happy to debate Anderson vs. Wood as a selection choice, but the rest of it is waffle.
