    Where's that come from?!

Shubman Gill gets down on one knee and slog sweeps Shoaib Bashir for four more! Shot.

For the first time in a long time, you look at the batting line-up from India and they look more fragile than ever. England will have to work hard on what seems like a flat surface but they are one wicket away from a potential collapse.

  3. Ind 75-1published at 27 overs

No, my eyes are not deceiving me - there's a boundary!

Shubman Gill opens the face of the bat with the most precise timing and guides Jimmy Anderson down to deep third for four. Lovely.

Re. Christian in York (see 5.13 GMT), my wife can’t understand where my enthusiasm is coming from with the night feeds. She did mention it dwindled from Monday to Thursday this week though!

We're whizzing through the overs here, thanks to India's lack of intent.

There's nothing in the pitch. Only lack of commitment to a shot will get them out here, you'd think - as Rohit Sharma's dismissal proved.

Keeping up to date while at the MCG where I’m currently watching the West Indies struggle against Australia in their first ODI. I’ve seen four wickets so far today. Hoping for more in India.

Debutant Xavier Bartlett took three early wickets for the hosts but Windies are fighting back through Keacy Carty and Roston Chase.

India are batting like a team that has taken a barrage of criticism. Very timorous and don’t seem clear on how to play.

  8. Ind 68-1published at 25 overs

Jaiswal in particular seems uncertain about whether to stick or twist at the moment. There are so many gaps, they could easily go at four or five an over without breaking a sweat but he's still being very cautious.

Makes you wonder what messages he's receiving, especially given how aggressive he was in Hyderabad - and was successful with it, too.

Shoaib Bashir looks very calm and controlled. He is bowling both over and round the wicket and has offered very few loose balls. It is always such a boost to get an early wicket because it stops you searching.

  10. Ind 65-1published at 24 overs

Gill and Jaiswal make the most of the gaps, nudging four singles from Shoaib Bashir's over with relative ease.

Half an hour to go until lunch.

It appears your six-month-old has a sense for wickets, Matt. Couple more would be nice, if you don't mind asking.

Up early tending to our six-month-old who stirred, unbeknownst to us, just before Bashir struck. Perfect timing! Plus, we’re away in Spain so an hour ahead to take the edge off the early start. Notwithstanding, it’s still too early for food. Unless you’re six-months old wanting a bottle.

    My word, almost a second!

Jaiswal takes the attack to Bashir, who is troubling him with some turn and extra bounce from his height. The batter miscues a sweep, the ball flying off the top edge just past a sprinting Jonny Bairstow at square leg.

  14. Ind 56-1published at 21 overs

Tom Hartley channels his inner Ravindra Jadeja (big compliment) and whizzes through an over in the blink of an eye.

    Just one from it.

Really interesting to see how Stokes has handled Bashir this morning. For the Rohit wicket, there were three men on the boundary. I can't remember that being the case very often in India's first innings in Hyderabad.

Two more from Bashir's next over.

Big innings for Shubman Gill, this. He's been India's future superstar for a long time now but hasn't quite lived up to the huge expectation on his shoulders.

But with another prodigy in Jaiswal for company, we are looking at a pair who are going to be around for a long time.

Woke up ready to finish packing, as today my wife & I move house. Turn on the cricket to see a couple of overs.... First ball Bashir gets Rohit! Great start to a very long day!

Yashasvi Jaiswal isn't feeling the pressure of seeing his captain depart.

He sweeps Tom Hartley to the ropes, clips three more off his pads before the spinner gifts Shubman Gill a full toss for his first boundary.

12 off the over eases the pressure a tad.

Been waiting all week to watch my one-week-old son Jesse’s second Test match. Mum thinks I’m a hero for doing the night shifts, little does she know I want to be up! Let’s hope it is as good as the first Test.
