  1. Ind 289-4published at 81 overs

No sign of the new ball yet. Rehan Ahmed continues his decent day with just two runs from his first over back into the attack.

  2. Ind 287-4published at 80 overs

Just a single from the rest of the over. It's been a very impressive start from Bashir.

There has been the occasional bad ball as you'd expect from such a young player on debut but he's got a strong action, got some turn and his height really does offer something different with that extra bounce.

  3. Ind 286-4published at 79.1 overs

A chance? Barely - a very, very tough one if anything.

Jaiswal slashes at a short-ish delivery from Bashir, slices it aerially past Root at slip for four. Replays show he doesn't get a hand to it but that's twice Jaiswal has flirted with danger off England's new spinner.

It has been a really impressive innings from Yashasvi Jaiswal. Seven of his 11 first-class centuries have been over 150 and that was always something I struggled with. It doesn't seem to affect him.

He can score runs quickly and maybe that takes less out of him on him. Reaching a century and then keeping the same tempo and concentration is a real art. He seems to have it in spades already.

  5. Ind 282-4published at 79 overs

Oh, lovely. A wristy flick from Axar Patel for four more, before Root gets one to keep perilously low which he just manages to dig out in time.

Interesting to see who will take the new ball - if Stokes takes it.

Walking my lad to school this morning and we saw a clear sign that Ben Stokes is going to get a ton and England will win with an over to spare.

  7. drinks break

    Ind 277-4published at 77 overs

Ben Stokes keeps the bowling changes coming, with Shoaib Bashir returning.

He draws an edge from Axar Patel but there's no slip, and more of a guide to the vacant region for a couple more - and that's drinks.

Joe Root has not been at his best with the ball today. He has been too wayward with his lines.

Will Ben Stokes give him the new ball?

  9. Ind 272-4published at 77 overs

Joe Root's return has signalled the end of Jimmy Anderson's efforts for now.

Root's not been as good as he was in Hyderabad, though. He drops the last two balls of the over way too short, and Axar Patel thumps both of them gratefully to the boundary.

    An expensive over.

Great knock from the youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal. He was head and shoulders above everyone in the 2020 U19s World Cup and now showing his maturity on the main stage.

  11. 150 runs

150 for Yashasvi Jaiswalpublished at 76.2 overs

    Ind 263-4

He reached his century with a six, and reaches his 150 with a shot just as classy, driving Joe Root through the covers for four.

The 22-year-old has been a class apart today.

Watching Jimmy bowling here I wonder whether we would have benefitted from a certain Mr S Broad sharing some of the load. It may not have had a huge impact on the wickets column today but I suspect India would have scored a few less runs.

  13. Ind 259-4published at 76 overs

Rehan Ahmed strays down the leg side and Axar Patel breathes a sigh of relief, helping it on its way to square leg for his first boundary.

  14. Ind 255-4published at 75 overs

Yashasvi Jaiswal safely negotiates the reverse swing from Anderson, unsurprisingly for a man on 146. The seamer has now got through 17 overs for just 30 runs.

  15. Ind 253-4published at 74 overs

Rehan Ahmed twirls his way through another probing over. You can sense that Jaiswal and Axar are aware of the importance of their partnersihip.

Frustration for India with Shubman Gill (34), Shreyas Iyer (27) and Rajat Patidar (32) all looking good for their starts but finding ways to get themselves out on a flat pitch.

Agree with Alex - another seamer would be good - has Stokes ruled himself out from any bowling? Even if it is just 2-over spells here and there? Often it only takes a few balls for Stokes to change the game with his bowling.

Obviously never say never, but Ben Stokes has been pretty adamant that he won't bowl in this series. He is currently going through a 'back to bowling' programme with the aim of being able to bowl in the summer. In the build-up to this Test he was only bowling off two or three paces to get the rest of the body used to the motion again.

  17. Ind 250-4published at 73 overs

Anderson keeps charging in, plugging away without much reward so far but asking plenty of questions.

    A ridiculous cricketer.

  18. Ind 249-4published at 72 overs

Axar Patel is in at six. He's batted as low as nine for India in the past but he is much more capable than that. He's got big shoes to fill though - he's essentially playing Jadeja's role in this Test.

A wicket maiden for Rehan Ahmed. Bowled.

Well done Ahmed! Spinning it hard and those extra revs helped the ball spin back onto Patidar's stumps.

Rehan Ahmed has hardly put a foot wrong in his short spell. He deserved that wicket and it came because he found a little extra bounce.

England have an opportunity here now that partnership has been broken.
