He sprinted all the way to that boundary sponge from mid-off, to get in this position and take the catch.

    A stunner.

Rajat Patidar, on Test debut, joins Shubman Gill who has 54.

Just a single from Rehan Ahmed's over as they look to rebuild.

The most important aspect of overhead catches is to turn the right way. That catch was a great example of technique and athleticism.

I’ll say it again, how many captains would set a tempting field like that with the batsmen becoming so well set? Gambles don’t always pay off, but with Stokes they seem to more often than not. Great catch too.

It should not be possible to be that good a fielder. And after his crucial run out of Jadeja in the first Test, too.

He's also recovering from knee surgery.

    Scarily good.

England needed that! What a catch. It was good captaincy too because he brought fielders up to encourage the big shot. Only Ben Stokes in this England team would have caught that.

Two more wickets before lunch would get them right back in the game.

That is a sensational catch. It is good captaincy, getting the field in and inviting the batters to go over the top.

    Shreyas c Stokes b Hartley 29 (Ind 111-3)

    Ben Stokes takes a screamer!

And it's a wicket that stems from his brilliant captaincy. Shreyas Iyer was going along nicely, so Stokes brings mid-on and mid-off up to encourage the big shot.

Shreyas obliges, and Stokes, at mid-off himself, sprints back to take an absolute stunner over his shoulder, diving full stretch out in front of him.

Hard to do it justice as to how difficult that is.

50 for Shubman Gillpublished at 27 overs

    Ind 111-2

A very, very good innings under pressure. Shubman Gill overturned an lbw, survived another review, but has been fluent since for a half-century from 60 balls.

He skips down the pitch to Rehan Ahmed and drills it straight down the ground for four, followed by a cover drive for the same result to reach the milestone in style.

Shubman Gill puts away a Tom Hartley full toss with authority as the pressure that was on him at the beginning of his innings completely dissipates.

He moves to 44 from 57 balls.

I've just realised it's hard to keep an eye on Joe Root if he's not actually on the field.

Best wishes to your son, Adam.

Currently following the cricket from a&e in Stockport with a poorly son, who can apparently sleep in a hard plastic chair. A skill I am yet to master.

Keep an eye on Joe Root. He's currently on his second spell off the field since taking a bang to the finger from the Shreyas edge that dropped short of slip.

More lovely timing from Shreyas Iyer as he clips Tom Hartley for four through mid-wicket.

The pitch is behaving, the ball isn't doing much and they are scoring quite freely now.

England would already have to break new ground if they are going to win this Test.

Their highest successful chase in Asia was 209 against Bangladesh in Mirpur in March 2010.

In India, their highest winning chase was 207 in Delhi in 1972.

Here's Rehan Ahmed for the first time this morning.

Twice he gifts Shubman Gill some width outside off stump and he makes the most of it, cutting firmly past point for two boundaries in the over.

He looks a different batter now to the nervous one that survived two close lbw reviews an hour ago.

This was always going to be the challenge for England and Stokes in between spells of brilliance from Anderson.

The inexperience of Hartley and Bashir has made it pretty easy for Gill and Shreyas to relieve the pressure.

Shane O'Neill: How is Stokes hoping to take wickets with no leg slip or square leg? Especially when Hartley is bowling? Feels like England are just going through the motions.
