I’ve just rocked the baby back to sleep, thought I’d check the score before going back to sleep myself and then Jimmy pops up with two wickets! Looks like I’m up for the day now.

I wonder how many captains would have come out as aggressively as this today? Ben Stokes is full on attack to put pressure on India. And it’s working.

  3. Ind 36-2published at 12 overs

    Lead by 179

Another probing Tom Hartley over that Shreyas Iyer negotiates.

India have a lead of 179 but they look like they're battling it out for a draw. Stokes, meanwhile, has got men around the bat and on the charge.

Dave Blathis: Yes Jimmy!! Nearly sacked the alarm off this morning, but worth it so far!

Alex Capel: Sir Jimmy at it again. GOAT!

He's all over the place at the moment but if Gill can survive this, it'll do wonders for his confidence.

Shreyas Iyer has wisely stayed at the non-striker's end since he's been out there.

Buy yourself a lottery ticket, Shubman Gill.

It's clipping the bails but it's umpire's call.

There's definitely no bat on this one. Is it doing too much?

  8. England reviewpublished at 10.4 overs

Shubman Gill looks like he's purely batting for survival here. For a young man of such talent, he looks terribly short of confidence.

Anderson pins him on the pad, and convinces Stokes into an lbw review this time...

I just love Jimmy Anderson so much.

    Theo, still awake

Unreal bowling from Anderson. Just the 14 wickets now needed for Jimmy to overtake Warne in the all time Test wicket taking lists. He could do it this series!

Both Gill and Shreyas Iyer need a score here. That just adds to the pressure and tension that is bubbling.

My oh my. The faintest of inside edges saves Shubman Gill. I don't think he had any idea he hit that.

  12. India reviewpublished at 9.4 overs

And he's plumb in front next ball!

Shubman Gill reviews but this is surely out of pure desperation.

  13. Ind 34-2published at 9.3 overs

Tom Hartley replaces Joe Root, now that he has two right handers in Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill to work with.

He gifts Gill a long-hop to thump away to mid-wicket for the first boundary of the morning.

James Anderson is extraordinary. Words can't do it justice. On a physical level, he's bowled 25 overs in the first innings and then only had 55 overs off but when his side needs him to deliver, he is the one.

England have got India exactly where they will have dreamt of having them this morning.

  15. Ind 30-2published at 9 overs

Three overs, two runs, two wickets.

The perfect start for England this morning.

I feel vindicated saying that it can nip around early! James Anderson is an absolute master, and led by a good captain, he's making the most of the conditions.

This will cause some doubt in the India batting line-up because nobody left averages more than 37. They are creating doubt and memories of the last Test will be resurfacing. England are in the hunt.

    WICKETpublished at 8.3 overs

    Jaiswal c Root b Anderson 17 (Ind 30-2)

    He's on fire!

The first-innings double centurion is gone, nicking a swinging delivery, angled across the left hander and straight to Joe Root at first slip.

Just brilliant from England, and Anderson leading from the front as he so often does.

India's vulnerable batting line-up will be getting a little jittery...

  18. Ind 30-1published at 8 overs

    Lead by 173

Turn and bounce for Joe Root as he fizzes one past Jaiswal's outside edge.

Watching a replay of that Anderson wicket and it's an absolute stunner. It literally curls around Rohit Sharma's bat as if he's got it on a string.

We've seen some masterful fast bowling the past couple of days.

  19. Ind 29-1published at 7 overs

    Lead by 172

An under-pressure Shubman Gill is in at three.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 6.4 overs

    Rohit b Anderson 13 (Ind 29-1)

    A beauty!

England's master strikes again, getting one to nip off the surface and through Rohit Sharma's defence to clip off stump. Vintage James Anderson, that.

The early breakthrough that they so desperately needed and it's the big one of the captain.
