Bumrah c Bairstow b Hartley 0 (Ind 255-9)
Jasprit Bumrah departs for a 26-ball duck.
He was playing for Ashwin, but the defensive prodding was only going to end one way. Another tentative prod finds the outside edge to Jonny Bairstow at second slip where he takes a sharp low catch.
Credit to Stokes for keeping the men around the bat.

We all know it’s irrelevant how many India score here. England will go for them and against this Indian attack, knock them off with an hour of play left.

Another few overs and might see the batters play a few more shots.

And sweeps for four!
Ashwin has picked his moment to launch and times it perfectly. The 400 lead creeps closer.
Finally!
This is what we know Ashwin is capable of. Rehan Ahmed can only watch as the ball sails high over his head and into the stands.

I don’t mind this from India. They don’t want England to bat a major part of the evening session. They are slowly increasing the lead and also making sure their bowlers can go full tilt tonight and then tomorrow.

Dan: Mad to think that Zak Crawley is going to get 300 in this second innings and go down as the best batter of all time.

Thinking of all the cheesy sledges we used to use when playing age group cricket as a kid, and used to think they were hilarious.
"More blocks than Legoland" was a classic, and certainly applies right now.

Anyone else really confused as to why India aren’t attacking? Bodes well for England if the mental state of the opposition is pure desperation to squeeze every run out of the innings rather than take England on with a view that they’ve already got enough so go for it anyway!

If and when India do reach the 400 mark, will they start going for it? Asking out of hope so that I can actually have something to describe for you.

Need to restrict India to a lead less than 400. Psychologically there’s a vast difference.

We know that England won't give up on this, but we also know that neither will Ashwin. He's being very stubborn, probably wants to make sure the pitch deteriorates as much as possible so that he can enjoy bowling on it tomorrow.

Ashwin is turning down singles now to protect Bumrah.
You really wouldn't think they have a lead of 385 right now if you just turned it on and hadn't registered the score yet.
The first boundary in what seems like a lifetime.
Ashwin clubs a short ball from Rehan Ahmed straight back past him for four.

What a fantastic side this is! They just never give up. It’s an extraordinary feat to keep hope alive when fighting from behind but somehow they lift each other. Truly awesome to follow this team!

The poking and prodding is getting Jasprit Bumrah nowhere.
He might as well have a swing, surely? We know he can whack it, we saw what he did to Stuart Broad at Edgbaston a couple of summers ago with 35 in one over.
It might not last long but a few boundaries gets India to a lead of 400 and a huge psychological advantage.

India and England seem fairly evenly matched so far this series. Pope’s innings won England the first test and Jaiswal’s innings is looking to be the difference here. I worry that return of Kohli, Jadeja and Rahul will tip the balance in India’s favour for the rest of the series.

Ashwin takes a single from the final ball to keep the strike.
I suspect India's aim will be to bat most of this session, extend the lead past 400, tire England out and then give them a tricky 20 minutes at the end of the day.
