The beauty of this England side, no matter how many runs they will need, you know they are going to try and chase it down. It will be entertaining to watch, one way or the other.

  2. Ind 233-8published at 70 overs

    Lead by 376

Ben Stokes keeps tinkering with the field, placing himself directly behind the bowler, but Bumrah and Ashwin aren't giving it yet. They're prepared to keep extending the lead even if it's just by one run an over.

India are 12-3 for in the past 10 overs.

  4. Ind 232-8published at 69 overs

    Lead by 375

The camera finds a man in the crowd wearing a motorbike helmet. If he's expecting sixes or a chance of a crowd catch, he's probably better off waiting for England's innings.

Bumrah and Ashwin aren't in a rush yet.

  6. dropped catch

Ashwin dropped on 4published at 68 overs

    Ind 231-8

    Oh, chance.

Ashwin gets a life. He drives, gets a thick edge off Hartley and the ball flies straight into Zak Crawley's hands at slip - and then bobbles straight out.

It went quickly but at a nice height and should've been comfortably taken.

  8. Ind 230-8published at 67 overs

    Lead by 373

It is pretty staggering, really, that we're even giving England a chance here. Logic tells you that it'll never happen, but you can tell that India don't feel anywhere near safe.

And you just know they're going to give it absolutely everything.

That’s the thing with this England side, even when you're more than 370 ahead and they have to bat in the fourth innings, you still don't feel safe enough.

  10. Ind 229-8published at 66 overs

    Lead by 372

Jasprit Bumrah, yesterday's hero, is in at 10.

It's probably time for Ashwin to play a few shots now.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 65.5 overs

    Kuldeep c Duckett b Hartley 0 (Ind 229-8)

    The mopping up begins.

It's the first attacking shot we've seen from an India batter in a while, and with a lead of almost 400 it probably does make sense. Kuldeep's attempted slog sweep sails high into the sky and Ben Duckett takes the catch at square leg.

    Two to go.

If only England had scored another 100 runs in their first innings.

  13. Ind 228-7published at 65 overs

    Lead by 371

India's lower order isn't the strongest. England will be hoping to mop this up pretty quickly now, as Kuldeep Yadav is in at nine.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 64.4 overs

    Bharat c Stokes b Ahmed 6 (Ind 228-7)

Rehan Ahmed strikes in the first over after tea!

It's a filthy half-tracker that is begging to be whacked for six, but KS Bharat can only club it to Ben Stokes for the simplest of catches at mid-wicket.

A very soft dismissal, exposing the fragile middle order again.

Louise: Can someone whisper in Stokes’s ear that being 1 up in a 5 Test series means a draw in this Test is worth having?

    Good luck with that, Louise!

    Cheers, Callum.

Four wickets to go. Let's get it done, Ben.

After that you've just got to chase around 400 on day four. Easy.

How quickly can England wrap up the India innings?

There is so much expectation on Shubman Gill. He is so talented, but he has the same kind of expectation as the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

But it was a brilliant innings under pressure especially knowing the likes of Kohli and KL Rahul are going to come back in to the side.

England's highest chase in India is 207 currently, with their highest in Asia coming against Bangladesh in 2010 when they chased 209.

Their highest chase anywhere is 378 against India at Edgbaston in 2022.

India's chase of 387 against England in 2008 is the highest in the country.

It's likely England will need to break a whole heap of records to win this Test and go 2-0 up in the five-Test series.

I think the bowlers acquitted themselves quite well, even without Joe Root, because they are so inexperienced. The signs for the future are very good for them.

They are bowling to an India team who are very adept at playing slower bowling and in these conditions.
