I absolutely agree with Angus 8:25. Under McCullum/Stokes we even play well when we lose. I think we need to stop and realise: this is a great time to be an England men's Test cricket supporter.

With England nine down, India can take the extra time before the tea break.

And to add a little sprinkling of drama, here's Ravichandran Ashwin. Can he make his 500th wicket the winning one?

Not yet, no. Tom Hartley cuts for four more.

As an Indian fan living in the UK, I am a bit torn. Ofcourse I still support India but I am equally happy and impressed by the quality of this English side. Whatever the end outcome of this series is going to be, it will be a highly entertaining series unlike some of the previous tours.

Teams lose in India. What I love about this England team is from two positions of absolute destitution where all hope was lost, they've fought and made 2 games out of it. It's like they are saying to their opponent, to beat us you'll have to do something really special.

That straight drive is the best shot of Jimmy Anderson’s life!

Oh, shot! Jimmy Anderson with a straight drive that Brian Lara would be proud of, getting himself off the mark with a four.

Rohit Sharma has done an excellent job to clear up the tail. He has brought the seamers back on and the extra pace has helped to break through the lower order. India on the final charge.

Mukesh Kumar has something to smile about!

The seamer has been targeted by England's batters throughout the Test but he finally gets a breakthrough as Shoaib Bashir nicks behind.

India are one wicket closer. Jimmy Anderson strides out at number 11.

  8. Eng 280-8published at 68 overs

    Target 399

Jasprit Bumrah goes slightly off-brand with a front foot no-ball wide.

A slower ball comes out wrong, dribbles to the keeper miles outside off stump and the buzzer rings to alert the no-ball.

But obviously, because it's Bumrah, he's still smiling. Young Shoaib Bashir survives the over.

The biggest take away for me in India so far has been how impressive our opening pair continue to be. Duckett hasn't had huge success but has consistently started well and his runs look increasingly impressive as games have gone on. Crawley imperious as well. It's just really nice not being 13-2 with Root holding it all together as it was 2 years ago! Just a positive for your Monday morning.

Tom Hartley is having a tricky time against Mukesh Kumar, who has found some reverse swing. He plays and misses outside off stump tentatively.

England's hope has dwindled but they really have put up such a good fight. Foakes and Hartley in particular showed admirable resilience.

No idea what KS Bharat heard there. Daylight between bat and ball.

    Another review.

Has Tom Hartley nicked behind? The keeper is convinced, the bowler less so but Rohit Sharma obliges.

Shoaib Bashir has been promoted above Jimmy Anderson.

England need a further 124 runs, India need two wickets.

Excellent off-cutter slower ball from Jasprit Bumrah, showing why he is one of the best. He was brought on by the captain to break the partnership. India will now be focussed on closing out the tail.

  15. wicket

    Foakes c & b Bumrah 36 (Eng 275-8)

The master strikes again. Jasprit Bumrah once again dampens England's spirits.

A brilliantly executed slower ball deceives Ben Foakes, sticking in the pitch and he's too early through the shot. A sharp catch in his follow-through completes another crafty bit of work from the seamer.

An entertaining, gritty partnership comes to an end.

A big challenge ahead for this partnership with Jasprit Bumrah, the strike bowler, on. The goal will be to navigate the variable bounce.

The psychological side of these runs is huge. They almost definitely won't win this Test, but getting remotely close will make India even more defensive in the following games.

Excellent partnership building. Ben Foakes has played both positive and low risk, and Tom Hartley has given some energy. The next goal is to chip away to a deficit of 100.

There's still a bit of hope!

  20. Eng 271-7published at 64 overs

Mukesh Kumar is on for the first time. He has been very ineffective this Test match so far but I suspect his captain will forgive all of that if he can break this partnership during this spell.
