Been up since 2 with my very own nighthawk (a sleep regressing 4-month-old). He’s fast asleep now so hoping he can learn by osmosis and pays me back in years to come.

    Target 399

Jasprit Bumrah gets a fifth over on the bounce.

Zak Crawley tucks him off his hips for a couple and England now need less than 300 to win.

  3. Eng 99-2published at 22 overs

    Target 399

Ollie Pope is the new batter and he's up and running straight away with a drive through the covers for four.

    That will give him confidence.

    Ahmed lbw b Axar 23 (Eng 95-2)

    That's gone though!

Axar Patel, as he so often does, is starting to get the ball to skid on to the batters and it's too good for Rehan Ahmed.

The 19-year-old manages to keep a couple out with his bat, but is then pinned in front as he looks to whip into the leg side.

The replay shows it is umpire's call on impact, so a review wouldn't have saved Ahmed, who just walked off straight away.

Ahmed dropped on 19published at 21.2 overs

    Eng 95-1

    Fortune!

Axar Patel finds a little bit of grip and Rehan Ahmed edges a drive towards Rohit Sharma at slip.

It is a difficult chance for the India captain, at full stretch to his right, and it can only brush his fingertips before running away for four.

Anthony Kendrick: At what point do we start thinking this is winnable? 150/2, 3?

Suhel Ahmed: Will England create more history today? Very excited for day 4! It might fall flat on my face but here we go! Come on Zak and Rehan, let’s have a good start.

Shane O'Neill: Contrary to what Jimmy said, I can't see how India will be worried. They know no touring side will ever chase down 399 on a 4th day wicket in India, as history shows. Sadly, I doubt England will make 200.

  7. Eng 91-1published at 21 overs

    Target 399

Zak Crawley defends the rest of the over.

England have seen off four overs of Jasprit Bumrah this morning. Is that him done for now?

His next spell or two, when the ball is likely to be reverse swinging, will likely be key to deciding the outcome of the game.

  8. Eng 91-1published at 20.3 overs

    Target 399

    Four more.

It is absolutely glorious from Zak Crawley too as he pushes an over-pitched Bumrah delivery back down the ground.

  9. Eng 87-1published at 20.1 overs

    Target 399

Jasprit Bumrah goes for the leg stump yorker but sprays it down the leg side and England pick up four byes.

They will take em, however they come.

Good morning! I'm out in Spain, the hour's time difference definitely helps. That we're even entertaining the possibility that England might pull off a victory shows how much Stokes and McCullum have changed the idea of what test cricket can be like!

  11. Eng 83-1published at 20 overs

Just a Zak Crawley single from Axar Patel's latest over.

Rehan Ahmed seems to have settled down a little bit after his slightly skittish start.

There were four fielders on the boundary in the fourth over of the day. Two years ago, when England chased that 378 at Edgbaston, India retreated too quickly and made it much easier for England. Have they learned their lesson?

  13. Eng 82-1published at 19 overes

    Target 399

Rehan Ahmed sees out a maiden from Jasprit Bumrah.

One of the blocks sees the ball drop in his crease and he wisely asks the fielders if he's alright to pick the ball up after the controversial dismissal England had against Zimbabwe in the Under-19 World Cup over the weekend.

England need one of the batters to go big. We know from India's first innings that is possible and time is on our side. We can do this!

    Target 399

Good cricket from England. Rehan Ahmed takes the single and then Zak Crawley is happy to see the rest of the over out.

They've added 15 runs in four overs this morning and Rohit Sharma is already going slightly defensive with his fields.

  16. Eng 81-1published at 17.1 overs

    Target 399

Back-to-back boundaries for England as Rehan Ahmed comes down the track to Axar Patel and drags him into wide long-on.

Make it three in a row! In to out from Ahmed and he drives to the boundary. Lovely shot.

Sadly in A&E tonight (nothing too serious) but it means I’m ready for the first ball! Come on England!

  18. Eng 73-1published at 17 overs

A little bit of movement and the ball keeping a tad low sees Zak Crawley beaten under the bat. It leads to him being hunched over in the crease and Jasprit Bumrah has his hands on his head in disbelief.

Then one takes off and Crawley is playing and missing.

Vintage Crawley to end the over though as he nails a drive past extra cover and away to the fence. The dressing room applaud.

It's a sticky morning, hazy, just like it was this time yesterday. James Anderson said there was moisture in the pitch early on, which helped his magical spell. That would suggest Bumrah is going to be a real handful.

England really need a good start. They have to put some pressure on the bowlers and make India fret.

Frankly, it would be a total waste if Rehan simply gives his wicket away because he is a very capable batsman.
