Well it was India's day in the end after centuries from Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja.

  2. 'Emotional presenting Stokes his 100th cap' - Collingwoodpublished at 11:58 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February

England coach Paul Collingwood speaking to TNT Sports: "It's been a good day of Test cricket, they've got some highly skilled batters, they fought back really well. Woody's run-out, Jimmy at 41, they've been working all day.

"Sometimes he [Wood] doesn't get the rewards, the skipper going to bouncing plans with him. Jaiswal has been good form and he's pleased with the run-out, he broke that partnership.

"The morning session was a bit cooler, it nipped around a bit. So tomorrow we've got a fresh new ball, we'll be looking to take early wickets."

After presenting Ben Stokes with his 100th cap: "It's been incredible to know him. To present him with his 100th cap was pretty emotional, it's great for the team to acknowledge the efforts he's put in over the years. We're all grateful his Dad came over to Cumbria! He's been tremendous.

You're a brave man putting your name to that message, David.

Will Jacks a better Test player than Joe Root? Interesting.

I agree with Dom that Joe Root should not bowl. Also he should not bat or field at slip. A better option is Will Jacks.

At 33-3 England's fans would have been very excited. Joe Root's drop of Rohit Sharma was pivotal.

The pitch is probably playing a bit better than the previous two Tests. There is some spin and reverse swing.

England will be happy with the effort but the pitch will deteriorate. India are on top.

It will be a big session in the morning. 420 looks to be a decent score and England’s batsmen must respond strongly when it’s their turn or they’ll find it tough batting last.

I know England's Bazballers play one way but I just hope that a couple take a look at how Rohit and Jadeja played and try and take a leaf.

    Sarfaraz Khan looks a player.

The 26-year-old debutant came out at number six for India and was flying until getting involved in a mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja when the left-hander was on the brink of his hundred.

Sarfaraz was run out for 62 from 66 balls, having taken down England's spinners in particular.

England owned the first hour of play and since then it has been all India. They not only fought back but have put themselves in a strong position with Jadeja going in overnight on a century.

  10. How's stat?!published at 11:38 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February

A stat from our friends at CricViz...

There have been 60 occasions in Test cricket when a team has taken three wickets inside the first 10 overs of a match.

This was the third-longest wait for the fourth wicket.

England took three wickets in the first hour - Mark Wood removing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill and Tom Hartley getting Rajat Patidar - at which point the hosts were 33-3.

The pitch has flattened out as the day has gone on, England missed some chances and India batted well.

Rohit Sharma was crucially dropped on 27 by Rohit Sharma before he made 131.

Rohit and Ravindra Jadeja, who ended 110 not out, would have been out had England decided to use their reviews on a couple of lbw shouts.

India’s day. The drop and the two non-reviews could have made it an incredible first day for England but sensible batting on a decent surface has put India well on top.

  13. Close of play - Ind 326-5published at 86 overs

Ravindra Jadeja flicks away one more boundary for good measure and that is that for day one.

It started so well for England but they end it right on the back foot.

  14. Ind 321-5published at 85 overs

Ravindra Jadeja turns down a single on the final ball of Joe Root's over to leave Kuldeep Yadav to face the last over of the day.

Poor Sarfaraz Khan has his head in his hands up in the dressing room.

  15. Ind 319-5published at 84.1 overs

I don't think Ben Stokes rates England's effort in the field today. Yes it was a full toss from Joe Root on his return to the attack but a weary Jonny Bairstow lets it through for four.

  16. Ind 315-5published at 84 overs

Kuldeep survives just about through the remaining five deliveries of Anderson's over.

We've just seen another shot of the Wood run out. As Aggers said, it was superb fielding. I didn't realise on first viewing he only had the one stump to aim at.

  17. Ind 315-5published at 83.1 overs

Anderson's first delivery hits Kuldeep on the pad. This is a chance for England to steal another.

  18. Ind 315-5published at 83 overs

After one over of Tom Hartley, James Anderson is now going to take the new ball.

Kuldeep is on strike with 10 minutes to go today.

Apart from his running between the wickets Jadeja once again performs when India needed him most.

Sure, he stitched up poor Sarfaraz. But it’s been a fine innings by Jadeja. It was 33-3 when he walked out to bat.

Mind you, there us so much ‘poor Sarfaraz’ sentiment that Wood’s brilliant throw has gone unnoticed!
