We'll look back very confused on that score.

Due to the fact that it was the batters at fault, a bowler of England’s choice should have to bowl in full rig; pads, helmet, forearm guard the lot!

    Crawley 6, Duckett 19

Zak Crawley is solid in defence.

England make it to tea unscathed.

I like it, Mike. Good fun and extra tactical nuance. England would have to pick Zak Crawley to save on current form, wouldn't they?

One ball remains in the session.

An alternative to stopping a bowler for a session: The Batting side get an extra wicket - they can pick who so save.

I'll leave you to tell him, Tom.

Ben Duckett, as he often does, continues to attack as Bumrah is driven through the covers.

It was in the air but safe.

Punishment? Bumrah has to bowl underarm with a white ball for an entire session.

Ben Duckett loves a cut more than Edward Scissorhands.

Four to the shorter of the two England openers...

The new ball is the easiest time to bat. The ball comes on, no real movement. An older ball and spin will be the challenge.

Duckett is playing far too frantically. I know they will say it’s the way the team play but the openers have to set the calming tone - he isn’t doing that.

Mohammed Siraj, fresh from a break during the second Test, has started better than his bowling partner Bumrah.

One delivery here bounces to beat Ben Duckett and reaches wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, who is wearing some snazzy orange sunglasses on debut, has chest height.

Ben Duckett shouts "no run" like Marnus Labuschagne after one prod.

England are going to need these guys to get off to a good start. They've done it in the Test matches beforehand, another good partnership here needed for England to set a base. 450 is a lot of runs, but Crawley is looking in great nick again.

Maybe Jasprit Bumrah should be allowed to keep bowling but has to do so with his shoes tied together. Other suggestions of punishments are welcome.

Ben Duckett punches the India quick off the back foot for four.

A 5 run penalty is pointless. The batting side should be allowed to choose a bowler who can’t bowl for an entire session.

Zak Crawley drives another in stylish fashion but Ben Duckett has made a shakier opening. He played around the first, wafted at the second and was squared up by his third.

It's a good start from Mohammed Siraj.

Siraj's knee is obviously OK. The magic spray has worked...

Despite all of that hobbling, Mohammed Siraj is fit to share the new ball.

  19. Eng 8-0published at 1 over

Zak Crawley starts confidently with a good push into the covers for two, a smart leave and a solid defensive block.

    Nicely done.

If you're wondering why England are starting with that five-run bonus, it's because India were given a penalty for running down the pitch while batting earlier on.

The first ball from Bumrah is a no-ball too.
