India have made the big call of resting Jasprit Bumrah. England won't mind that.

India captain Rohit Sharma: "We would have batted first.

"It [the pitch] looks a little dry and cracks as well. That is the nature of the pitch here we have got to play will to win like the last two games.

"A lot of the young guys in the squad have shown up for the challenge and taken the responsibility. That is a good sign for us."

England captain Ben Stokes on TNT Sports: "Every game we play is important but going 2-1 down does put a little bit more on this one.

"The first hour will give us an indication [on the pitch] but generally in India, you want to bat first.

"My bowling is coming along well. I'm slightly ahead of schedule but there's still a lot more work for me to put in to be fully confident. It's been a long time off so I've got to build my way back up again.

"We've had opportunities throughout the series where we could have maybe asserted ourselves a little better but I've been really happy with the way that we've operated. But 2-1 down, and we're going to emphasise forcing a result."

England leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed is leaving the tour of India because of an urgent family matter and will not return.

The 19-year-old was not selected for the fourth Test in Ranchi, which begins on Friday.

Ahmed's omission from the team is not linked to his departure from the tour - his need to return home did not emerge until after the XI was announced.

He will leave India later on Friday and England will not name a replacement.

It has only been five days since England's capitulation in the third Test, which ended in one of their heaviest defeats of all time.

It has left them at the point of no return, more than 1,000 miles east and 2-1 down in this series with two to play.

England need to win here to keep their hopes of a special series victory alive.
