Bairstow 33, Root 12
Yep, he's in the mood.
Ravichandran Ashwin is into the attack for the first time, and Jonny Bairstow greets him with a slog-sweep for six!

Stokes can have a fun few overs bowling on this, and ease back in with a five-fer.

It’s very early days but this kind of pitch brings England into the game - Anderson & Robinson will hit the cracks.
Ah, the Joe Root special.
He guides Jadeja for four off the back foot with exquisite timing.

Jonny Bairstow is a dangerous man when he has a point to prove.

Alex Capel: YJB 100 incoming…
Hello!
Bairstow responds with an almighty bottom-handed thump down the ground for four, and follows it with a more classical cover drive for the same result.
Lovely.
The skipper Rohit Sharma misfields, and gifts Jonny Bairstow two bonus runs.
I don't think I'd like to misfield off Siraj. He looks raging.

I'm up Matt, because of Bazball. I believe!

Listening from Luang Prabang in Laos. 34 degrees here currently, sat with a beer in hand. Come on England!

Ravi Jadeja zips through a maiden.
Sensible.

Interesting that both teams have gone spin heavy in their attacks. Looks as if pace bowlers will be increasingly awkward with uneven bounce.
Oh, and he follows it with a huge swing that he luckily edges on to his pads.
Siraj has his hands on his head.
Steady on, Jonny.

Jonny's eyes are on here... he is on a mission!
Mohmmed Siraj is back, replacing Akash Deep whose debut spell in Test cricket ends with 3-24 to his name from seven overs.
Bairstow is batting out of his crease to combat the movement, and gets four from the first ball with a controlled slice to deep point.

I don’t think we will be here on day five!
Phil Tufnell
Former England spinner
That's just ragged from straight to Jonny Bairstow from Jadeja. At pace, with a bit of bounce. Good luck having a bat on this, but England have to remain strong here.
Turn and bounce from Jadeja, who rips one past Bairstow's outside edge.
Day one!

Jonny's bottom hand is grabbing hold of the bat hard. He has to be careful he doesn’t go so hard and lose his shape.
India found themselves three down early in Rajkot, but managed to dig themselves out of a hole with Rohit Sharma and Jadeja's brilliance.
Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow need to use all their experience to do the same here. This will certainly be a test of the England approach that has gained so much attention since the third Test defeat.
