Wow. As loud and as enthusiastic an appeal you will ever hear from India and Kuldeep Yadav.

They think they've got Crawley lbw again.

After 13 overs in the first hour, the spinners are now whizzing through them, which is a relief. And Jadeja hasn't even bowled yet.

Crawley and Pope are happy to take the singles, just settling things after the wicket and as we approach the lunch break.

Jonathan France: A gift out of absolutely nothing for India. We were cruising at 64-0. Unfortunately this is the epitome of the series. Good starts but then throw it away.

From a challenging opening spell from the seamers, the spin is now looking unplayable even though it's not really spinning.

There's some uneven bounce but that wicket, and particularly the brilliance of Shubman Gill's effort, has given India belief and the entire mood has shifted.

Pope pokes and prods his way through Kuldeep's over, taking a single from the last ball as the only run from it.

  6. Eng 66-1published at 19 overs

Ollie Pope is in at three.

It's not a particularly relaxing experience watching him start an innings. He dabs one so, so close to the left hand of short leg first ball.

The ever-animated Ashwin gasps, hands on his head. India have come alive.

That was a super set up from Kuldeep Yadav. He bowled flatter, quicker and shorter and that pushed Ben Duckett on the back foot and then the slower fuller delivery brought the wicket.

Ben Duckett will be kicking himself. He’s missed out on what looks, at this early stage, like the best batting surface of the series.

    Duckett c Gill b Kuldeep 27 (Eng 64-1)

Kuldeep Yadav strikes! It's a dreadful shot but Shubman Gill takes a spectacular catch and India erupt.

Ben Duckett had just punched Kuldeep Yadav down the ground for four off the back foot, and Crawley got that boundary first ball, so there was no need for this.

Duckett tries to whack it over the leg side, gets a horrible-looking leading edge as he loses his shape and Gill sprints back from cover, dives forward and takes a stunner sliding along the turf.

  10. Eng 59-0published at 17.1 overs

Here's Kuldeep Yadav, who bowled beautifully in Ranchi.

He drops a little short first ball, and Crawley gets four from it thanks to a misfield from Ashwin at point.

    Kuldeep looks thoroughly unimpressed.

Beginning to wonder if the England openers have been visiting the local Buddhist monasteries because surely only divine intervention has kept them both at the wicket. I love watching cricket in bed when we have some good fortune!

Ben Duckett is looking to attack Ashwin, who is probing away on a good length. It doesn't look pretty but Duckett seems to get out to him every time he tries to defend, so there's logic to it.

Ashwin enjoys the challenge, though. Just two off the over.

Jack: 11 overs worth of dot balls faced by England in the first 14 overs is decidedly different to what we’ve seen recently.

Not sure how many more overs Siraj has got left in him. He's bowled eight now. Have India got the selection wrong? Do they need another seamer?

Anyway, that debate aside, a Hull City shirt is spotted in the Dharamsala crowd.

    Niche. I like it.

Not a single ball deviated in Ashwin’s first over. A first for this series!

  16. Eng 51-0published at 15 overs

The biggest cheer of the day comes for Ravichandran Ashwin, in his 100th Test.

And Ben Duckett paddle sweeps his second ball for four, because what else is he going to do?

  18. Eng 47-0published at 14 overs

Mohammed Siraj continues after the drinks break. He's had enough of getting the ball to swing as he jams one in short and pins Zak Crawley in the ribs.

Be a nice bruise there in the morning.

It's not too often in India that you see two seamers bowl unchanged for more than an hour and they have both bowled very well, but probably haven't made the most of the conditions.

Quite something for England to have survived that opening hour. They have needed plenty of luck but India have missed a chance by bowling a pretty length. There are already signs of uneven bounce.
