Wednesday nights out in Nottingham are very heavy. Fancy dress night for both unis. I remember them very hazily nearly 12 years on, wearing some very questionable get up!

Quite hard to believe that after all that's happened this first hour, after all the movement India have got from the ball, that's the first real shout for a wicket that we've had.
There's no bat... and umpire's call saves Crawley.
But India don't lose the review.
Spoke too soon.
India are pretty confident of this lbw shout on Zak Crawley.
Whisper it, but batting is starting to look a little easier.
Zak Crawley treats us to another textbook cover drive for four.

On the temperature, I wouldn't say it's too bad. My phone says it's 13 degrees, which is pretty passable for 10am. In terms of recent England Tests, the beginning of Wellington this time last year and the back end of the Old Trafford Ashes Test were much grimmer.
Ben Duckett is looking a bit more assured after a frenetic start, but he's still more watchful than usual.
India only went with two seamers so it's probably a sensible move to see off this opening spell and then cash in before lunch.

The ball is swinging spectacularly but India have bowled too short. There hasn't been enough of the driveable length that finds the edge.
That's seriously impressive, Jay. I can only assume (and hope) that you are a student, and haven't got to be up for work in a couple of hours...

What better way to come back to from a night out than England batting first on day one of a Test match, regardless of the score!

Somehow, a brilliant Jasprit Bumrah over goes for eight.
Crawley chips one in the air past the bowler for two and then gets a leading edge for a couple more.
There have been some lovely shots but it's also been completely chaotic.
Too full from Jasprit Bumrah and you've got to make the most of any slight mistake from him.
Zak Crawley does, with another lovely cover drive to the ropes.

I know we're only half an hour in, the pitch is fresh and the ball new, but would both of these sides quite like another seamer?
If you picked up this pitch and these conditions, dropped them in Nottingham in May, there's no way either side would have more than one frontline spinner in their XIs.
Ben Duckett's solution to the ball swinging and bouncing all over the place is to try and launch one over the covers and he completely misses it.
Of course.

Jasprit Bumrah looks rejuvenated after his match off. He is bowling some serious deliveries.
My word, Jasprit Bumrah. The man is a magician.
He gets one swinging round corners that Zak Crawley tries to clip through the leg side but it somehow ends up whizzing just over his off stump.
Crawley then edges one past a diving gully for four.
He then plays and misses at the last.
Somehow, he's survived it.

It's more like Durham-Shala this morning, hope England can capitalise after winning the toss.

Ben Duckett releases some pressure by flaying a wide ball from Mohammed Siraj through the covers for four.
It's not the prettiest drive but he's given it everything and it's effective. He was on four from 16 balls so it'll give him a boost.

It’s a beautiful ground, but it was always a bizarre decision to play this match up in the mountains at this time of year. Imagine if this was the decider!
However, the pitch looks good. The outfield was terrible when we were there in the World Cup in October.
