  1. dropped catch

Bairstow dropped on 21published at 42 overs

    Eng 163-3

Another caught and bowled opportunity goes down.

It's drilled back at Kuldeep Yadav by Jonny Bairstow. He hits it so hard, but it's a catchable height, just to the right of the wrist spinner.

He might think he should have held on. It just breaks straight through his fingers. He's perhaps fortunate not to break any!

  2. 6 runs

    Eng 162-3published at 41.3 overs

Giving me flashbacks to GCSE English, Kev. What a book.

Talking of brutal things, Jonny Bairstow punishes Kuldeep Yadav for over-pitching by a drilling him back over his head for six.

Bairstow has 21 off 13 balls. He's got another start.

I’ve been grumpy about the first two wickets to fall, but the delivery from Kuldeep to Crawley was superb. Wrist spinners make things happen.

  5. drinks break

    Eng 152-3published at 41 overs

How is Jonny Bairstow going to play here?

It had been pretty patient but then he decides to go over mid-on to end the over. It's not the greatest connection but it just clears the man and brings a boundary.

Time for a drink. England are 52-1 in the first hour of this session.

There's plenty of noise from India at the moment. They know they are probably the side in control and another wicket or two puts them completely on top.

Billie Jean is the latest musical track. It really has been a mix.

As it's World Book Day, and I'm sure children all over the country are getting ready in their costumes, we're asking you to get involved too.

Send us your best cricketers as book characters, your cricket book titles, or any varieties you can think of.

My colleague Ffion has kindly given us one first - The Slip Catcher in the Rye.

I'm sure you can do better, though.

  9. Eng 145-3published at 39 overs

England need a partnership here. It doesn't feel like this is a 300 pitch like we've seen in the series so far. It's not an absolute belter as some thought, but it is a good track, and 400 is the absolute minimum you would have thought.

  10. Eng 143-3published at 38 overs

Jonny Bairstow, playing his 100th Test, is the new batter.

An inside past short leg brings him a couple to get off the mark, before a flick to the fine leg boundary.

Bairstow has a high-score of 38 in the series. He's possibly playing for his place in the summer.

    Phil Tufnell
    Former England spinner

A beautifully flighted delivery, drawing Crawley forward. It spun back through the gate.

A lovely use of the old quick-quick-slow, the change of pace deceiving him. He just can't seem to tick off that hundred!

That's the first one we've really seen bite and turn.

That is phenomenal from Kuldeep Yadav. The drift and the dip was something to drool over.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 37.2 overs

    Crawley b Kuldeep 79 (Eng 137-3)

The wait for a century goes on.

This is brilliant bowling again from Kuldeep Yadav, who now has 3-41.

Zak Crawley looks to use his feet, and drive into the covers, but Kuldeep fizzes one between bat and pad and into leg stump. There's a beautiful dip on the ball too.

That's four half-centuries but no ton in the series for Crawley.

    Stephan Shemilt

Since the beginning of the Ashes, only Yashasvi Jaiswal and Usman Khawaja have made more Test runs than Zak Crawley.

  15. dropped catch

Crawley dropped on 78published at 37 overs

    Eng 137-2

And two balls into his spell Ravindra Jadeja almost finds the breakthrough.

Zak Crawley drills a straight drive back at him, but it is high to Jadeja's left and it ends up hitting his hand and popping out.

It is the kind of chance that either sticks or it doesn't.

  16. Postpublished at 07:22 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

England have seen off Jasprit Bumrah.

It's time for Ravindra Jadeja for the first time today.

  17. Eng 136-2published at 36 overs

Zak Crawley has moved to 78 now. That's his highest score of the series.

Can he find that elusive century? It feels like he deserves one in the series. He's the second-highest run-scorer at the moment. Yashasvi Jaiswal is miles clear.

Joe Root picks up a boundary, punishing a filthy long hop from Kuldeep Yadav.

  18. Eng 129-2published at 35 overs

Successive maidens. Can India build pressure and force a mistake?

Jasprit Bumrah tried the short ball to Joe Root in this over, and the England batter did cloth the pull slightly, but it fell safely.

  19. Postpublished at 07:16 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

    Deep Dasgupta

The pitch is looking very flat now.

  20. Eng 129-2published at 34 overs

We've just seen the England changing room and spinners Tom Hartley and Shoaib Bashir are sat either side of captain Ben Stokes.

Hartley was occasionally nodding his head along to the music, while Stokes was more giving the impression that he wanted the music changed, or to stop all together.
