    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 22-1

Tight line from Chris Rushworth to Jake Libby, but there's just enough width for Libby to leave the ball. Just.

The fifth ball is shorter and edged with a crooked bat over the slips for four.

Libby keeps the strike with a single cut to backward point.

  2. Postpublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Lancashire 202 v Surrey 13-0

  3. Weather affects opening-round schedulepublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

So they're under way at Old Trafford after a delayed start but, if you weren't with us earlier, here are some details of the matches yet to get under way on Sunday.

They took an early lunch at Headingley, where Yorkshire are hosting Leicestershire in Division Two.

Also in the second tier, there will be another inspection at 14:00 BST to see if they can get going in the game between Derbyshire and Gloucestershire.

Durham and Hampshire, meanwhile, suffered a third consecutive washout and are yet to start their match at the Riverside.

No play possible in three Championship matches

There is no play for a third straight day in the Durham-Hampshire and Derbyshire-Gloucestershire games, while Yorkshire-Leicestershire is also rained off.

    Sussex 24-0 v Northants 371

Tidy over from Ben Sanderson, bowling a testing line just outside off to Tom Clark.

    Three runs off the third.

Michael Finan is bowling a better length to Tom Haines but oversteps with the third delivery of his second over.

The fourth legitimate ball is wide of off stump and flayed through cover for four.

  5. Play under way at Old Traffordpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Lancashire 202 v Surrey 11-0

The players have emerged to a smattering of spectators at a cool Old Trafford.

Will Williams has the ball in hand to bowl to Surrey skipper Rory Burns.

  6. Postpublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Notts 293 v Essex 253 & 123-4

Those two wickets in two balls from Brett Hutton have really allowed Notts to turn the screw.

Essex batters Tom Westley and Matt Critchley recognise the situation and are somewhat in survival mode.

    They lead by 83.

  7. 'Good cricket conditions at Lord's'published at 12:30 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Middlesex 210-3 v Glamorgan 620-3 dec

    Roland Butcher
Former Middlesex and England batter on BBC Radio London

The sun is really beating down here at Lord's, good cricket conditions at the moment.

When you think how the weather has been around the country, we've been so lucky here where the weather and pitch have been good.

And a good amount of spectators.

  8. wicket

WICKET Roderick c Burgess b Rushworth 4published at 12:27 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 8-1

    Chris Rushworth strikes early!

It's not his best delivery, fired down the leg side.

Nonetheless, Gareth Roderick follows it and nicks a catch to the keeper, Michael Burgess.

Worcestershire's first-innings centurion Kashif Ali takes guard...

He's off the mark second ball with a sumptuous front foot cover drive for four.

  9. Postpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Sussex 14-0 v Northants 371

Tom Haines is off the mark with a pull through square leg off the bowling of Michael Finan for four.

Two more fours are struck through by Haines the off side in the over. One on the back foot and one on the front.

A loose over from Finan with variable line and length.

  10. 'Astounded we've had two full days'published at 12:26 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 8-0

    Mike Taylor
    BBC Coventry & Warwickshire

I'm astounded that we've had two full days and I know that they can work magic now, the ground staff, or it seems it, especially at the bigger grounds where the facilities are better and I know there been work done on drainage here.

But the rain here at 02:00 on Friday morning was beating the windows, two or three miles away from here. Even about 22:00 last night we had to turn the telly up thinking 'you can't get a game ready from that'.

It must take a phenomenal amount of work and planning. You can't get this by just putting loads of man hours in - even though they obviously have.

  11. Postpublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 8-0

A bright start for Gareth Roderick, who opens his account off the sixth ball of the innings with a swivel pull through mid wicket and into the Hollies Stand for four.

Not a great delivery in an otherwise decent over from Chris Rushworth.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby opens the bowling from the Birmingham End and Jake Libby pushes his first ball through cover off the back foot for four.

The sun has returned to Edgbaston but the floodlights remain on and it seems to be raining in about every part of the county but here.

  12. Postpublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Kent 284 v Somerset 55-1

Somerset pass 50 in reply to Kent's first-innings total of 284 - but in slightly fortunate circumstances.

Nathan Gilchrist finds the edge of Tom Lammonby but it squeaks just wide of the slip cordon and away for four.

At the start of the next over, Matt Renshaw shows a bit of Test class with a gorgeous on-drive for four off Joey Evison.

  13. wicket

WICKET Holden c Ingram b Douthwaite 53published at 12:20 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Middlesex 203-3 v Glamorgan 620-3 dec

Some inspired field placing from Glamorgan captain Sam Northeast delivers a big wicket.

Colin Ingram is brought in at leg gully and Max Holden falls into the trap as he steers one from Dan Douthwaite into his hands.

Glamorgan have removed both set batters in a short space of time and will sense an opening.

Captain Northeast continues to influence this match.

  14. Slight advantage Pears at Edgbastonpublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 0-0

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at Edgbaston

    Well wouldn't you know it!

It was said that Warwickshire were in a strong position last night, trailing Worcestershire by 68 runs at the close, with still five wickets intact.

But, with the new ball, under the Edgbaston lights, and labouring against a strong wind, the Pears have hit back well to take those last five wickets for just 41 runs.

Worcestershire openers Gareth Roderick and Jake Libby have re-emerged defending a slender 27-run first-innings lead.

  15. Sussex begin first inningspublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Sussex 0-0 v Northants 371

A draw is the most likely result given the time we've lost over the last couple of days but a sticky start from Sussex here could change that.

Two Toms - Clark and Haines - will open for the hosts.

Ben Sanderson to bowl to Clark.

  16. 'Anything is possible here'published at 12:18 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 0-0

    Melinda Farrell
Sports broadcaster/journalist on BBC Coventry & Warwickshire

    It's a cracking game.

First game of the season at Edgbaston, the weather gods have been incredibly kind. All around the country there have been a lot of people looking outside at the rain falling.

It's an intriguing match so far, there's not much in it at all. It's going to take one good session to put someone in front and it could be another session when it brings it all back.

    Anything is possible here.

  17. Pears start their second innings at Edgbastonpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 0-0

A first-innings lead seemed unlikely this morning, but the Pears have a slender one thanks to some superb new-ball bowling.

Chris Rushworth will bowl to Gareth Roderick, opening the innings with Jake Libby.

  18. Who's on top?published at 12:16 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Notts 293 v Essex 253 & 119-4

This is one of those county games that we love.

Essex lead by 79 with six wickets left. A big partnership could leave Notts with a tough chase.

A couple more wickets before lunch and the home side will fancy their chances.

Essex skipper Tom Westley has 20 off 53 balls - it's not easy going and he recognises the value of his wicket.

  19. 'Northants really got a move on'published at 12:13 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Sussex v Northants 371

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Northamptonshire really got a move on this morning, 79 runs they scored, came in a little over the hour.

    So a good response.

  20. Postpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Kent 284 v Somerset 39-1

Two left-handers at the crease now for Somerset and Tom Lammonby gets his first boundary of the day with a superb drive through the covers.

Matt Renshaw remains circumspect at the other end - the Australia Test opener is 15 not out from 51 balls.
