    Kent 284 v Somerset 158-2

Somerset seem to have taken the sting out of things after Kent took the wicket of Matt Renshaw.

Tom Lammonby is still there on 64 not out and Lewis Goldsworthy has one run from his first 16 balls.

  2. Postpublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 135-1

Michael Booth is back on his feet but there's still plenty of doubt about whether or not he'll bowl.

    He will bowl.

He pitches it up and Kashif Ali is forward to defend, then the Worcestershire number three dances down the track to the last ball of the over and launches it over long off for four.

An eventful over with injuries to both batsman and bowler.

It included two boundaries and lasted 12 minutes.

  3. 300 runs

for Middlesexpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Middlesex 301-4 v Glamorgan 620-3 dec

Ryan Higgins gets three runs off the off-spin of Kiran Carlson and that sees the Middlesex score reach 300.

It's a second batting point and a good start after their struggles with the bat in 2023.

The only problem is that they still trail Glamorgan by 319.

In fact, they are still 34 runs behind Sam Northeast's 335!

  4. 'It's put Sussex under a little bit of pressure'published at 15:05 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Sussex 102-3 v Northants 371

    Andrew Radd
    BBC Radio Northampton

That Oli Carter wicket means that Ben Sanderson has taken more Championship wickets against Sussex than any other county, his 39th wicket for Northamptonshire against Sussex - just one ahead of Derbyshire.

It's put Sussex under a little bit of pressure, I still think it's going to be very, very difficult to get a result here because I don't think there is any question of quixotic declarations or anything like that in the first game of the season.

But a couple out before tea and they'll feel that they're in business.

  5. Sussex pass 100 for three down at Hovepublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Sussex 102-3 v Northants 371

James Coles has a first boundary, clipping Ben Sanderson down to fine leg for four - and that takes Sussex past 100 in the 31st over.

The good news is that Kashif Ali has got through the concussion protocol and is fine to bat on.

He ducks out of a pull shot first up but connects gloriously with the next ball, short arm pulled through mid wicket for four.

The next ball is driven straight back to the bowler and now Michael Booth has taken a stinging blow to the shin.

Feels a bit like a tooth for a tooth here.

  7. rain stops play

Rain arrives at Old Traffordpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Lancashire 202 v Surrey 15-0

The expected rain has now arrived at Old Trafford.

Remember we had just 21 balls before lunch and nothing since. We have to doubt whether we will add to that as the rain has really set in.

  8. 'Sanderson will feel an awful lot better'published at 14:56 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Sussex 94-3 v Northants 371

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

An exact mirror image of the two balls earlier.

The stump is knocked out of the ground again and Oli Carter is on his way.

Ben Sanderson will feel an awful lot better after that.

  9. ouch!

Ali bounced by Boothpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 127-1

Kashif Ali is on 81 and has scored so quickly that the worthy innings of Jake Libby has barely been noticed.

Michael Booth drops short and Ali misses a pull.

He's been struck on the side of the crash helmet and play will be paused for a while.

  10. 'Get the Dukes back'published at 14:54 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Notts 293 v Essex 253 & 197-5

Notts seamer Luke Fletcher is on BBC Radio Nottingham and he has some strident views about the use of the Kookaburra ball in these opening two rounds of fixtures.

"Get the Dukes ball back," he said.

    "English conditions, proper cricket.

"What are we doing with the Kookaburra? It looks like they're bowling with a sponge ball."

  11. Postpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Notts 293 v Essex 253 & 197-5

That is a real show of intent from Paul Walter as he on-drives Dane Paterson for a second four of the over.

The first was a bit squarer as it went towards midwicket.

Wicketkeeper Joe Clarke comes up to the stumps but Walter takes a single.

Nine off the over - an expensive one and Paterson has shipped 61 off 11 overs.

  12. wicket

WICKET Carter b Sanderson 5published at 14:50 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Sussex 94-3 v Northants 371

Remember that let off we talked about?

    It lasted for one ball.

Ben Sanderson rips out the leg stump of Oli Carter, who misses with a defensive push and Northants have a first bowling point of 2024.

    James Coles to bat next.

  13. Frustration for Sandersonpublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Sussex 92-2 v Northants 371

Ben Sanderson knocks out Oli Carter's stumps but it's a no ball!

A let off for him and for Sussex.

  14. Postpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Sussex 92-2 v Northants 371

A life for Oli Carter, who edges Ben Sanderson just short of the slips.

Haines gets a single off Rob Keogh and Carter picks up one more turned to square leg.

The last ball is flighted, drawing Haines into the drive and the ball scuttles past the stumps off an inside edge for a lucky two.

  15. 'Lots of time to get this match concluded'published at 14:48 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Notts 293 v Essex 253 & 192-5

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham

The forecast is supposedly good although blustery and cloudy for the rest of today and tomorrow.

So there is lots of time to get this match concluded.

  16. 50 runs

for Tom Lammonbypublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Kent 284 v Somerset 146-2

Shortly after his partnership of 117 with Matt Renshaw came to an end, Tom Lammonby joins his team-mate in starting the County Championship season with a half-century.

However, after a very comfortable passage of play for the batting team either side of lunch, Kent are now sniffing some wickets.

Lammonby very nearly chopped onto his stumps off George Garrett on 48 and then almost offered a catch to mid-on off the bowling of Matt Parkinson, who is getting a good amount of spin.

Even the boundary that took Lammonby to 50 was an edge past first slip, although there was no chance of a catch.

It's worth mentioning that on day one, Essex were 170-2 and ended up 253 all out.

Yesterday, Notts were going very nicely at 259-4 and were all out for 293.

So wickets have come in clusters later in the day at Trent Bridge.

Essex currently lead by 148, but they won't be feeling comfortable by all means.

Kashif Ali does it againpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 108-1

There simply aren't enough superlatives in a modern Thesaurus to describe how joyful this innings is.

Ali launches Danny Briggs down the ground for a maximum to take the Pears to 100.

  19. wicket

WICKET Renshaw b Parkinson 66published at 14:42 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Kent 284 v Somerset 142-2

    Big wicket for Kent!

The home side had been threatening for the previous 15 minutes or so and Matt Parkinson provides the breakthrough, removing Matt Renshaw for 66.

A classic leg-spinner's dismissal to the left-hander - float it outside the off stump and spin it back through the gate to hit the stumps.

There might have been the tiniest inside edge, but it's not enough of a diversion and Renshaw is gone.

  20. 50 runs

Matt Critchley takes another single and that is a 50 partnership between him and Paul Walter.

It is dragging Essex towards a fighting total.
