    Sussex 82-2 v Northants 371

  2. 6 runs

Kashif Ali hits top gearpublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 97-1

Warwickshire will be in trouble if Kashif Ali bats much longer.

Michael Booth bowls short and Ali holds the pose as he seemingly just taps the ball over mid wicket for six!

He makes it look oh, so easy. Corker of a shot.

  3. 'Ali looks so comfortable and confident'published at 14:35 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 88-1

    Phil Britt
    BBC Coventry & Warwickshire

Kashif Ali looks so comfortable and confident, he looks like he's someone who has been around a long time.

If he can continue this sort of form, he's going to be a big asset for Worcestershire.

  4. 50 runs

for Tom Hainespublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Sussex 77-2 v Northants 371

Tom Haines' 18th career 50 is timely indeed for Sussex after the loss of two wickets in quick succession to Rob Keogh.

Chris Tremain drops short and Haines is back and across to crunch the ball through mid wicket for his 10th four. 72 balls faced to date.

  5. Old Trafford updatepublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Lancashire 202 v Surrey 15-0

Gloomy scene at Old TraffordImage source, BBC Sport

The rain has actually stopped at Old Trafford, but the covers remain in place.

The flags are blowing hard on top of the pavilion and it is a cold and gloomy outlook.

As a result, with strong winds and further rain predicted, there is no current prospect of a return to the field.

Things are actually quite busy around the ground, but that's because people are parking up or having a drink before heading to the other Old Trafford just down the road.

Apparently, there's a big match taking place this afternoon!

  6. 'Libby and Ali have done remarkably well'published at 14:31 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 84-1

    Phil Britt
    BBC Coventry & Warwickshire

Worcestershire lost that early wicket, it could have been a tumble, but Jake Libby and Kashif Ali have done remarkably well.

I thought just before lunch these two two did a terrific job, they made sure of no further wickets and they also took advantage of anything that they could get runs off.

Kashif Ali has come out for his second innings just as efficiently as he did during the first innings.

  7. 50 runs

50 for Kashif Alipublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 84-1

We had a quiet first 40 minutes or so after lunch but the runs are flowing now.

Kashif Ali drives Will Rhodes through mid-on with a flourish of the bat for four and gets four more runs next ball with a slightly airborne back-foot drive through cover.

One ball later, he's celebrating his 50 with a deft push into mid wicket for one. His fifth career 50 and his second in this game.

66 balls and eight fours. Pure class.

  8. Postpublished at 14:23 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Notts 293 v Essex 253 & 171-5

A pleasing drive from Matt Critchley gets past a dive at mid-off - in stages - from Brett Hutton and runs away for four.

This partnership between Critchley and Paul Walter is now up to 42 and is getting towards the dangerous stage from a Notts perspective.

  9. wicket

WICKET Alsop st McManus b Keogh 3published at 14:23 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Sussex 73-2 v Northants 371

    Rob Keogh strikes again!

He lures Tom Alsop out of his crease with a flighted leg side ball and that's a very smart stumping by keeper Lewis McManus.

    Keogh has 2-7.

Can he "Get Carter"? Oli Carter in at four for Sussex.

  10. 'An interesting wicket'published at 14:17 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Sussex 70-1 v Northants 371

    Andrew Radd
    BBC Radio Northampton

That Tom Clark dismissal is an interesting wicket because of the amount it turned.

Lovely shot from Kashif Ali. Little more than a checked drive that guides the ball swiftly through mid off for four.

Will Rhodes pushes the ball wider of off stump and Ali defends.

The partnership with Jake Libby is now worth 61.

  12. Further pitch inspection at 15:00 BSTpublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Yorkshire 72-2 v Leicestershire 354

The 14:00 BST inspection is inconclusive and we will have another one in an hour's time.

  13. rain stops play

Play abandoned for the daypublished at 14:15 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

Derbyshire v Gloucestershire - yet to begin

The news from Derby is, once again, bleak.

There will be no play on day three. There must be a doubt as to whether any cricket will take place in this one.

  14. Postpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Sussex 67-1 v Northants 371

Spin could be key in this game and with all due respect to Saif Zaib, that means a very big workload for Rob Keogh.

Good line and flight from the off spinner, who concedes just a single off his latest over.

Chris Tremain is round the wicket to Tom Haines, who ducks under a bouncer outside off stump.

The fifth ball is wide and driven through backward point for four.

    Haines is on 48.

  15. Postpublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Kent 284 v Somerset 125-1

Somerset duo Matt Renshaw and Tom Lammonby have now added 100 runs for the second wicket against Kent. Serene progress.

Meanwhile, Somerset spinner Shoaib Bashir took the opportunity to turn his arm over during the lunch interval at Canterbury.

After an impressive winter tour of India in England colours, there are sure to be plenty of eyes keeping tabs on his progress during the early weeks of the County Championship season.

  16. Postpublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Notts 293 v Essex 253 & 157-5

Matt Critchley is showing admirable restraint here at Trent Bridge.

He has 24 off 76 balls.

First-class cricket is about reading the situation. Today is difficult for batting and the bowling is accurate.

Critchley has helped his team move into a lead of 117.

  17. Postpublished at 14:09 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 62-1

Oliver Hannon-Dalby is bowling a nagging line and length after previously losing his run up umpteen times in the cross wind. Maiden over.

Ed Barnard is in at short extra cover for Will Rhodes.

Kashif Ali is able to leave the ball outside off.

The fifth ball is speared down leg and easily glanced away for one.

No alarms for the Pears early this afternoon.

  18. wicket

WICKET Du Plooy lbw b Hamza 37published at 14:07 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Middlesex 273-4 v Glamorgan 620-3 dec

Mir Hamza wins the battle of the debutants!

Charging in from the Pavilion End, the left-armer gets a ball to just move in a touch and strike left-handed Leus du Plooy on the pads.

Hamza is convinced he's got him and the umpire agrees to give him a first Glamorgan wicket.

Du Plooy's hopes of a big score on his Middlesex debut are over.

  19. 'It's clouded over but not threatening'published at 14:07 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Notts 293 v Essex 253 & 154-5

    Paul Newton
    BBC Essex

We had several sunny interludes, particularly in the hour going up to lunch.

But since then it's clouded over here but it doesn't look too threatening.

  20. wicket

WICKET Clark lbw b Keoghpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 7 April 2024

    Sussex 55-1 v Northants 371

A single apiece to Tom Haines and Tom Clark, working the left arm spin of Zaib into the on side.

Chris Tremain bowls with decent pace and carry at the other end for a maiden over.

Zaib is out of the attack after just one over and Rob Keogh is back on.

He flights the ball up nicely and Clark defends...

Out! Turn and bite from the spinner and Clark is pinned on the pad in front of middle and leg.

    Tom Alsop to bat next.
