The topic of swearing has been high on the agenda this weekend after FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem suggested in an interview drivers could be hit with penalties for swearing over team radio.

On Thursday, Max Verstappen let slip a naughty word while discussing his lack of pace in Azerbaijan compared to Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez. The profanity didn't go unnoticed by the sport's governing body, and the Dutchman must "accomplish some work of public interest" for using language they deemed "coarse, rude or may cause offence".

Verstappen said he had "no words" in response to the punishment dished out.

So, after qualifying in second place, the three-time world champion headed up to the news conference on Saturday...

  2. Will Norris be able to control the race?published at 12:15 British Summer Time

This is usually a slow-burn race that turns on key moments such as a safety car or hectic pit-stop period. In the past few years, the strategy has been for the leader to manage his pace in the first stint, keeping tyre temperatures under control, until close to the pit-stop period and then try to build a gap to ensure he stops and rejoins in front.

But will it work that way this time? Lando Norris has shown strong pace all weekend in all conditions. If the McLaren driver can keep the lead by the end of the first lap, he might find he can build a gap and control the race that way. But will he keep the lead on the first lap? He has not managed to do so from any of his previous four poles this year in Spain, Hungary, the Netherlands and Italy.

  3. 'Awesome' to fight Verstappen and Hamilton - Norrispublished at 12:11 British Summer Time

Lando Norris claimed his fifth pole position of the season on Saturday, finishing ahead of rival Max Verstappen by 0.203 seconds.

The McLaren driver has not one, but two multiple world champions to fend off from lights out, as seven-time title winner Lewis Hamilton starts third on the grid. The prospect of fighting the pair was "awesome", said Norris.

If he wins in Singapore, it would move Norris' career total to three victories - a number he knows is a long way off the two drivers behind him.

"There's World Championships, I mean, there's 150 wins or something between them," he said.

"So, yeah, I've got nothing on them and nothing comparing to them. Respect them a lot. I've looked up to both of them for a long time, both literally and mentally, you know, so it doesn't change what I do and how I go out and drive."

  4. Starting gridpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time

There are no grid penalties or pit lane starts this weekend, so everyone stays in the same place for today's Singapore Grand Prix.

All eyes will be on the front of the field as Lando Norris in the McLaren corner and Red Bull's Max Verstappen in the other go head-to-head off the line. The Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will have ringside seats from the second row.

Sergio Perez is on the back foot again after a Q2 knockout on Saturday. The Mexican will be lining up behind the two Williams of Franco Colpapinto and Alex Albon in P13.

Three places behind Perez is the RB of Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian has been fielding questions about his future in the sport all weekend and could have benefitted from the relief of a decent starting position. Instead, he exited qualifying at the first hurdle and begins what could be his final grand prix in 16th place - eight spots lower than team-mate Yuki Tsunoda.

Lando Norris qualified on pole position for today's Singapore Grand Prix and has championship leader Max Verstappen right alongside him on the front row.

With a 59-point gap between the pair in the drivers' title battle, Norris needs to conquer his opening-lap demons and stay ahead of the fight at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
