Michael van Gerwen is flying. The format plays into his hands. He's going to be tough to beat and it’s going to be difficult for the other seven.

But the "show" - the music, the walk-on girls and the fancy dress - is only half of the story.

Because the main reason you and I are here is for the darts, and we should witness some awesome arrows over the next two days.

The inaugural Champions League of Darts has taken the leading eight players in the PDC's Order of Merit to the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, where a £100,000 first prize is on offer to the winner.

Let me assure you that I've prepared properly for this live text commentary.

I put my best darts shirt on and sent a few emails to get warmed up.

On my way back from the kitchen to get a drink, I slapped hands with my colleagues - some of whom are dressed as Stormtroopers, Teletubbies and old-school WWE wrestlers.

The walk to my desk was accompanied by a banging tune. "Dissolve" by the Chemical Brothers, if you're interested.

I'm SO ready to bring you coverage of a Professional Darts Corporation event on the BBC for the first time.

    Game on.
