Wade takes seven successive legs to win

It looked a pretty even contest at 3-3, but James Wade ran away with it in the end with seven successive legs. A 10-3 win puts him top of Group B, and Adrian Lewis is in danger of an early exit from the Champions League of Darts.

    Adrian Lewis 3-9 *James Wade

Is there a magnet in that double 20? Six legs in a row for Wade and he's one leg away from a wonderful victory. Nothing Lewis can do about this.

How will Lewis to respond to Wade's 161 finish before the interval? Pretty well is the answer - he leaves a finish after nine darts, but can't take out 140 and Wade lives up to his "Machine" nickname with a 78 checkout on tops. Finishing of the highest standard.

  4. Wade looking 'ominous'published at 14:34 British Summer Time 24 September 2016

When James finds double top on a stage very early, it's quite ominous. That 161 has really hurt Adrian Lewis and it will be interesting to see how he comes back.

Wade with a 161 finish! Superb stuff. What a leg to win before the break, it's four legs in a row for Wade and he's a strong favourite now.

    *Adrian Lewis 3-6 James Wade

Wade, who I've been told looks a bit like me, is in superb form here. Three legs in a row for the man from Aldershot.

    Adrian Lewis 3-5 *James Wade

Excellent pressure from Wade, who hits a 140 to leave 64. Two missed attempts at double from Lewis and Wade mops up to break for the first time.

Wade has real pedigree and knows what it takes to win the big events in the PDC. He's looking pretty solid on his own throw and holds comfortably again. The challenge is to break Lewis when the world number three has first visit.

Ooh, Wade was eyeing up a 170 checkout but the second shot at treble 20 is just outside the red bit. Lewis holds, no breaks of throw yet in this match.

    *Adrian Lewis 2-3 James Wade

Wade leaves double top after 12 darts but misses three at double. Lewis fails to take out 86, and Wade is back to land double two. Both players were averaging more than 100 but they will have taken a hit with those missed opportunities.

We started with a slow-burner in the first match, but this one has taken off in great style.

Alan's not wrong - both players looking in good shape. Wade hits a maximum but is made to pay for missed doubles and Lewis holds for 2-2.

    *Adrian Lewis 1-2 James Wade

Lewis opens up with another maximum, but it's Wade who takes the leg with a 120 checkout. Leg won in 15 darts, on double top. Told you.

    Adrian Lewis 1-1 *James Wade

Lewis hits his first 180 to leave 46 after nine darts, and wraps it up in 12 to hold throw. Bubbling up nicely.

Easy does it for Wade - a 15-dart leg finished on double top. Expect to be saying that a few times this weekend.

    Adrian Lewis v *James Wade

Adrian Lewis and James Wade may only be in their early thirties but the two Englishmen both seem to have been around at the top of the PDC for years and years.

Both are multiple major winners, but a lack of consistency has prevented either player from completely dominating the sport - which had looked possible a decade ago when both were emerging talents in the PDC.

Lewis should have the edge on scoring, but Wade's strength is his finishing. If he can peg a few ton-plus checkouts, he'll have everyone in the field worried.

Wade, the only left-hander in the tournament, to throw first. Game on!

They had a spell when they played each other when there was always guaranteed drama. James Wade always seems to turn up against Adrian Lewis and he'll be up for this.

    Mark Webster

Adrian Lewis believes in himself. He won't be deterred if he loses his first group game. He's very thick-skinned, he'll be very confident and he's very fluent.

  19. 'I needed a break'published at 14:05 British Summer Time 24 September 2016

Result: Gary Anderson 10-5 Michael Smith

Gary Anderson speaking to BBC Sport: "I've not thrown a dart for four weeks because I've just got back from Florida.

"I've haven't had a holiday for about five years. I've had about 82 days at home in the past two years and I needed a break.

"Michael's one of the biggest talents I know but he's not quite getting it on the stage yet. The doubles were going in when I needed them."

  20. 'Anderson will be thrilled'published at 14:02 British Summer Time 24 September 2016

Result: Gary Anderson 10-5 Michael Smith

It's going to be very difficult for Michael - he's hit his first hurdle face on.

Gary will be thrilled with that. He'll go back to the hotel, get some sleep and reset his machine for tonight.
